Classic Cockails with Philip Greene

Phil will discuss and prepare 4 different cocktails, paired with small bites as he regales us with history & how-tos on classic and modern drinks inspired by his newest book, Sours: A History of the World’s Most Storied Cocktail. Phil will stay to sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase.

Philip Greene is an award-winning attorney, historian, and writer. He is Trademark Counsel for the U.S. Marine Corps at the Pentagon and was one of the founders of the Museum of the American Cocktail in New Orleans. He has presented at food and drink events worldwide. Phil is the author of five books, To Have and Have Another – A Hemingway Cocktail Companion, The Manhattan: The Story of the First Modern Cocktail, A Drinkable Feast: A Cocktail Companion to 1920s Paris, Cheers! Cocktails and Toasts to Celebrate Every Day of the Year, and, his fifth book, SOURS: A History of the World’s Most Storied Cocktail.

Phil was also a contributing author for the Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails (2021), and was a columnist for The Daily Beast and was recently profiled in the New York Times.

Experience the Tradition of Excellence

Michigan Shores Club is part of a long and rich history, preserved in the elegance of its architecture and ambiance and its traditions carried through its members. Nestled along the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan in Wilmette, Michigan Shores is a second home to its members. The Club can trace its beginnings to 1897, when Wilmette's first social club, The Ouillmette Country Club, was founded.

The Ouillmette Club merged with the Century Club of Evanston in 1927 to form the Shawnee Country Club. Based on the renderings of the famous architect and civic planner, Daniel Burnham, the Shawnee Club expanded in 1929. This expansion afforded the opportunity for the Clubhouse to showcase the Tudor style that has been preserved throughout the entire Club.

During the Great Depression, a group led by President Wayne Bellows and W. Clement Stone revitalized the Club. What emerged from this transformation is the Club that we know today: Michigan Shores Club. After a century of memories and celebrations, the Club continues to grow and offer its members, old and new, opportunities to share in the tradition that is uniquely Michigan Shores Club.
