As a retired school band member, I have always admired Band Day since moving here. The beating drums, synchronized dancers, impressive flag routines, loud music, and more. So much joy and fun memories! 🎶

For those of you who don’t know, Band Day began on June 8, 1927, as a celebration for the dedication of the Lewis & Clark Bridge. Today it has become a time-honored Williston tradition that showcases the talents of local and regional marching bands. 🥁🎺

Peep this photo from 2003-2005(?) marching band in St.James, MN, possibly for a homecoming parade. I’d be the flutist by the white car. 🤍🪈

I’m sure some of you foodies were wondering what we did with all of bread crusts and fun cut outs from all of those tea sandwiches from the Masquerade dinner. Okay.. so maybe I was the only one. 🍞😅

Food waste is something that I care deeply about so with that I decided to make bread pudding. 14 double batches to be precise. I let my staff take them home. And you know what? That only used half of the left over bread. 🙃 The rest went to a friend who has some chickens! 🐓

Bread pudding or “poor man’s pudding” is a historic dish, originating in the 11th century as a way to repurpose stale bread. While popularized in England, similar dishes similar dishes appeared in early Roman, Middle Eastern, and Indian cuisines. By the 13th century, the dish evolved from just water and spices to include milk and eggs, eventually becoming known as Bread and Butter Pudding. One of the earliest published American recipes for bread pudding appeared in the 1742 edition of ‘The Compleat Housewife.’

Last night was one for the books! 📚

This was our 3rd year of making and donating the meal served at Olive Motherhood Foundation’s Murder Mystery Fundraiser. And what an honor it truly is to be just a part of something so beautiful. ❤️

Let me tell you the story of this menu! This year’s theme was Wonderland Masquerade. 🎭

Watching every movie (again) for inspiration and design, let me take you down the rabbit hole with this wonderland of flavor! 🕳️🐇

With a starter of a tea sandwich duo:
Dill Cream Cheese & Cucumber on Rye
Cheddar Cheese & Strawberry Jam on White
-Tea party staples and a nod to the Card Guards-

For the main course:
Tart Cherry Compote on Roasted Turkey Breast
-Alice’s first tart flavors in Wonderland-

Smoked Bacon & Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms
-Running into a ho**ah smoking caterpillar, Alice is told one side of the mushroom will make her larger and the other side smaller-

400 hand-cut sandwiches, over 200 plated entrees, a few hard working kitchen staff, all of the wonderful volunteers and workers of the event, a completely sold out venue, and this 1 amazing community. ✨
