The Barn at Helm

The Barn at Helm Celebrating 11 YEARS of local grown flowers & 7 YEARS of UPICK & National, Regional & Local CONCERTS at our lovely & unique venue. ALWAYS CLOSED ON SUNDAYS.
(248)

OPEN Wednesdays 4pm to dark & Saturday 11am to 5pm until OCT 11. We are a seasonal flower farm growing over 80 different varieties of flowers available for fresh cut use. Flowers are local grown and are available from the last week of March clear until the last of October. Located on a 125 acre working farm, our family also grows and sells corn, soybeans and a few chickens for our own egg cons

umption. Our beautiful barn on the property adjoins the flower garden and its beauty equals that of the flowers. In fact, it is what we have named our flower farm after. The Barn at Helm is a rustic and unique structure that showcases its original thick wooden beams and old farm character. It is the oldest barn on the property with several handwritten signatures dating back to 1900. The original wooden floor measures 280 square feet and the main Floor is 1300 square feet. We've got it dolled up for our own personal use complete with draped ceiling lights. Folks enjoy strolling through the flower farm when we have gatherings here. The Barn at Helm can be your complete stop for all your flower needs. Besides selling at the local farmers market, we do take special orders, and even offer local delivery. We specialize in the "Flower Bar" concept where we bring the flowers to you for your bridal or baby shower or other special gathering. This unique experience allows everyone to become the floral designer and all leave with their own beautiful masterpiece. We offer a full service floral needs for weddings even offering brides a "pick your own" option if they prefer. We can do some out of season events with advanced notice as well. Call us for all your floral needs. 765-238-1161

Dig dahlias ✅

After several weeks of digging we finally have them all out of the ground! 🙌

Dahlias are not winter hearty here in Indiana and would rot if we left them in the ground. It’s A LOT of work but they all get lifted, cleaned, divided if needed and stored until they get replanted in the spring.

Our youngest son Jake was here last week to run the combine & he helped dig a few too.❤️

~Keep my muscles strong, my heart soft and my smile genuine 🩷

I’m always out picking …grabbing bucketfuls of flowers for market, for custom orders or for our Bouquet of the Month folks. Believe me when I say I’m totally in my happy place.

Last night I picked with a headlamp on….saving every bloom I could from the frost. It’s bittersweet🫶🏻

This section of dahlias were slow going at the beginning. We had way too much rain. Several rotted & had to be replanted. And then we had a couple months of almost zero precipitation. Even with irrigation they just sat there. Late in the season we finally got an inch of rain & the blooms on these babies popped!! They have really put on a show in the last month! 🙌🌸

Last week I told Carleigh I don’t think the farm had ever looked better and of course I wanted a pic of all this gorgeousness!! This photo was taken one week ago today. Boy how both the farm and the weather has changed since then.

We might skip by without a frost tonight because of cloud cover but it’s almost certain for tomorrow night with predicted temperatures of 34. If you have any pots or flowers outside that you are wanting to save you need to bring them in or cover them.
