✨ What a night at The Walker Center! ✨
On September 11, the Grand Ol’ Americana Show lit up the stage with laughter, music, and plenty of patriotic pride. 🎶🇺🇸
From the toe-tapping sounds of Blue Water Highway to the harmonies of the Liberty Radio Orchestra & Gospel Singers, the show transported us back to a nostalgic era of Route 66 road trips, backyard BBQs, and summer nights under the stars. 🌟
Director Tabitha Hudler summed it up best:
“The Grand Ol’ Americana Show was the perfect mix of fun, music, and memory-making. It captured the joy and pride of our shared American heritage and gave our community a night to remember.” ❤️
We’re proud to continue bringing world-class entertainment right here to Wilkesboro!

The John A. Walker Community Center is proud to be this region’s premier venue for cultural experiences in Wilkes County and surrounding areas and to serve as the preferred gathering place for meetings, weddings, receptions, conventions, banquets, and parties.
The Walker Center was created to address Wilkes Community College’s mission components of culture, business, industry, and training. Dr. David Daniel, WCC president at the time, took the lead in the effort to construct the center and WCC’s Foundation, the development arm of the institution, embarked on a fundraising drive that would raise $2.2 million.
In March of 1983, ground was broken on the building thanks to the 1,500 donors who contributed to the vision of the center. When construction was completed, WCC was enhanced by a 33,000 square foot building that featured an 1,100 seat auditorium, lobby, backstage area, and management area.
The dedication and ribbon cutting were held on August 24, 1984 and featured the opening performance of Gordon MacRae and Anna Maria Alberghetti. On October 24 of that same year, WCC Theatre held its production of “The Music Man” in the center as a special performance for alumni.
Over the years, interest in the John A. Walker Community Center grew as more people realized the tremendous asset such a facility provides. In addition to a vibrant performing arts center and exciting school events program, the center has hosted many business and community events. The increasing demand on the facility indicated a need for expansion. In 2000, a $1.9 million renovation expanded the ballroom, provided additional restrooms, and created a full production kitchen.
Most of the people you encounter during your Walker Center visit are volunteers. They are vital to the operations of our center. We welcome new members into our volunteer family. To learn about volunteer opportunities, contact Tabitha Hudler at 336-838-6185.
