A quick piece of advice for couples planning backyard weddings or outdoor events in Michigan

Over the past few years I’ve noticed more couples exploring backyard weddings and outdoor celebrations. When they’re planned properly, they can be incredibly beautiful and personal events.

I help handle the day-to-day operations for Memorable Party Rentals LLC, a local Michigan event rental company, and we work with many couples navigating the decision between a traditional venue and hosting their wedding at home or on private property.

One thing I always encourage couples to look for when choosing a rental company is proper insurance and commercial-grade equipment.

Recently there’s been an increase in companies advertising carports, pop-up canopies, and retail-style tents as wedding tents. Those structures simply are not designed for large gatherings or unpredictable weather, and many legitimate event insurance policies will not even allow them to be used for events of that size.

A properly installed event tent is engineered very differently. Commercial pole tents and frame tents are specifically designed for gatherings and are installed with proper staking or weighting systems to handle wind loads and ensure guest safety.

Another thing I always recommend when researching vendors:

• Make sure the company is insured
• Look through real photos of events they actually installed
• Read reviews from real clients with real experiences
• Ask questions about the type of equipment being used

You should be able to see actual installations, not just stock images or AI-generated graphics.

Transparency is another big one for me personally. In the event industry it’s not uncommon to see pricing shift depending on the event. Personally, I’ve always believed couples deserve clear, transparent pricing and honest communication so they can make informed decisions that fit their budget and their vision.

When you choose a company that is insured, experienced, and using the correct commercial equipment, you’re putting your event in good hands and eliminating a lot of potential stress on an already busy day.

Backyard weddings can truly be incredible when they’re planned properly.
