This was unexpected! Thanks to those who nominated me for Best Wedding Planner! I am in the top three, listed under my name Datso Perkins.
These things are kind of silly (one year Humboldt County jail won for best place to meet a date) and take a certain amount of pushiness to get people to vote (which I am not) but hey, I genuinely appreciate the acknowledgment from those who nominated me and the vote if you feel like voting!

Today was so much fun! Thank you to everyone who came out today who lived here or traveled here for the run, or just happened to be passing through as a family on a road trip and decided to sign up and run minutes after arriving. What a great group of people! I adore weddings but putting on community events is pretty great too. This was a community today, no matter where we all live.

A huge thanks to , Angus and crew, one of whom I got to watch grow up and she is now embarking on her fire fighting career . You all are the best at keeping everyone safe and the energy fun!

2026 Storm Runner Fun Run, 5k, 10K

Ready, Set, Go!

I think the secret to having amazing weather for a run is to name it Storm Runner, because Shelter Cove has been anything but stormy. Unlike last year when you were trying not to get blown away to Kansas, this year you will need to stop counting the whale spouts to focus on your running (or walking, we love all paces!)
We checked the new distance, once, twice or ten times, who’s counting when we get to walk in weather like this with geese honking over our heads. We have laser engraved the beautiful hardwood medals made my Whitethorn Hardwoods who is also a sponsor of the run. We can’t wait to see you this Sunday!

Do you remember the Fun Run? The Storm Runner is the evolution of that cherished Whitethorn School fundraiser that started years ago when Spring Cogswell had the great idea for a family walk/run followed by good food and drinks. Rain or shine, people of all ages showed up and always had a blast.

As the kids grew up and moved on, the event passed to me, then the pandemic hit.

When Julie Peacock, the owner of Gyppo Ale Mill, and I started planning events together, we thought it was time to bring it back. We first revived it as the Shamrock Shuffle for St. Patrick’s Day… but Mother Nature had other plans and showed up with wind and rain, so we leaned into it and Storm Runner was born.

We can guarantee the same fun, same good food and drinks, same stunning ocean views, but what the weather is going to be like adds that fun surprise element.

What is that saying, March comes in like a lion, goes out like a lamb? Well, it sure did roar at last year’s Shamrock Shuffle, so much so that we decided to give it a rename.

Same route, same incredible views, and same great times but with a new name, the Storm Runner!

We have bumped it back a week to March 22nd, so hopefully it will be a little bit more lamb and a little bit less lion. Although, I think the wind and rain added an extra thrill to the event and everyone finished feeling a little extra tough, from families enjoying the Fun Run together to those that decided to take on the 10K and didn’t say screw it and stop for a beer instead of doing lap two.

It was a blast, both figuratively and literally. This is the wild Lost Coast, after all. We don’t have any control over the weather, but we know it will be a great time regardless.

This year it will start at Surf Point Coffee House with day of registration opening at 10 AM and the 5k, 10K, and 2.3 mile Fun Run starting at 11:00 a.m. The finish line and medal ceremony will be at Gyppo Ale Mill.

I was going to make a highlight reel of all of the beautiful weddings I got to be a part of in 2025, but truth be told making reels isn’t my forte, so instead I leave you with this sentiment.

All the pretty things matter… but love matters the most.
