💙Today was SO GOOD!

💨These people showed us what Humboldt Strong is!

🚒Sorry for the lack of photos, but the wind was so insane that trying to keep track of time, writing on soggy paper as runners were coming in, staying in connection with the amazing 🙌🏼 who gave SO MUCH support to this run, I didn’t get all of the photos I had hoped to capture. The tripod and real camera proved to be a pipe dream because these winds weren’t joking.

🍀Coming across the finish line in this storm, we had sponsors running with their kid. We see you !

😍The originator and orchestrater of this run, Spring Cogswell, who jumped through all of the hoops many years ago to start this tradition to raise funds for Whitethorn School, graced us with her presence.

🏆 Thank you for everyone who came out and participated. Serious beasts! We had one runner who had never been to Shelter Cove, and this was their first experience here. She had signed up for the 10K, but wasn’t sure if she wanted to do a 10K with the weather conditions but when she came by after the first lap, she did the second lap like a rockstar!
The general manager of RID rocked it as always, winning 1st in his class. I peeped my brother out there too. A loved community member ran this for his beloved late uncle who was a marathoner and whose birthday was today and per usual came in first place.

🥎 A huge thanks to the South Fork High School softball team players that showed up to help, their amazing coach, and the parents who helped. High school peeps know how hard it is to give up a Sunday, as it’s sometimes the only morning you might be able to sleep in past six.

This was COMMUNITY. A nice dip back into the running event world too. I can’t wait until next year!

A huge thanks to our local SoHum CalTrans and Humboldt County Road Crew for the cones and signage. My husband too, who I work with often and discovered we are possibly not a high winds road crew dream team, but we ended up with smiles on our faces when all was said and done.

I meant to hop on here yesterday to wish everyone a very Happy Valentine’s Day, because there’s nothing more important than celebrating love. So, Happy Valentine’s Day—yesterday and every day! Valentine’s Day is extra special for us because it’s also my husband’s birthday. The day got away from me as we spent it celebrating him.

In honor of love and to reintroduce myself and us, I’m sharing some photos from our 10-year anniversary, along with a throwback to our wedding day, which was an elopement in Lake Tahoe.

I had been married once before in a big celebration—but to the wrong person. So, when we decided to marry, I knew I wanted to do everything differently. Of course, our family felt left out, so I thought, “Why not celebrate with them on our 10-year anniversary?” Fast forward to 2017, ten years later, and with one more daughter, we held a small celebration with close friends and family in an old church in Bend, Oregon, a town we had spent a lot of time in as avid snowboarders, that had been converted into a home. We packed everything into our car, including piles of eucalyptus from my tree for the florist to work with, and had a very low-key celebration with good food and drinks.

My only regret? Not hiring a coordinator— I was running around the entire time!

But cheers to love, and to men born on Valentine’s Day—how smart and sneaky is that?

Celebrate spring on the Lost Coast with a scenic 5k, 10k or Family Fun Run (2.1 miles). What is a progressive dinner?

A progressive dinner is a dinner party where guests move between different hosts' homes to enjoy each course of the meal, with each host preparing and serving one specific course like appetizers, salad, main dish, or dessert, essentially "progressing" through the meal at various locations throughout the evening. They were popular in the 50’s and the 60’s.

Except this one is professional chefs bringing their magic to the table at establishments spread around the lovely Shelter Cove!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
This is one of my favorite holidays to really appreciate what matters in life. It also gives me an occasion to decorate from my garden. I grew miniature delicata and butternut squash and mini jack-o’-lantern this year, Love Lies Bleeding Amaranth that I dried, and foraged redwood branches off our property. The storm made foraging easy as we have huge widow makers all over the place. This was a free and easy table garland that accompanied an amazing meal and company.

Every spring I get so excited and hopeful for the growing season, and then I get very busy and my poor garden is out there croaking and begging for love. Luckily, some things are patient with my neglect and somehow pull through. Today I am drying Love Lies Bleeding Amaranth to be used to decorate our orchard for Halloween, as I try (life can get so busy 😕) to do annually, using as many home grown and foraged plants, flowers and leaves as I can.
