I found Mom's old doors in the basement after she passed, and the realtor called them "junk that nobody wants."
Those doors came from our first family home before the divorce. Mom had saved them for thirty years, always saying she'd "make something special someday." Well, someday never came for her.
I stared at them in my garage for weeks, hearing that realtor's voice. Then at 2 AM, scrolling through my phone with cold coffee, I found this woman on Tedooo app who'd built a garden arbor from her grandmother's barn wood. Something about her story made me sob right there at my kitchen table.
I messaged her desperately, and she walked me through every step. Even connected me with other Tedooo crafters who sold the hardware I needed.
Three months of weekend work later, wrestling with power tools while my neighbors probably questioned my sanity, I stepped back and saw what I'd created. Mom's "junk" doors had become this gorgeous weathered entrance to the flower beds I'd planted in her memory.
Last week that same realtor drove by and stopped. "Where did you get that beautiful arbor?"
I smiled. "From my mother. She gave me everything I needed."
