Today In Music: 1979 - Eagles
The Eagles started a nine week run at No.1 on the US album chart with The Long Run, the bands fourth US No.1. This was the first Eagles album to feature bassist Timothy B. Schmit, who had replaced founding member Randy Meisner. Three singles were released from the album, 'Heartache Tonight', 'The Long Run', and 'I Can't Tell You Why'. 'Heartache Tonight' reached No. 1 on the singles chart and won a Grammy Award.

1973 - Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton released 'Jolene' as the first single and title track from her album of the same name. According to Parton, the song which peaked at No. 1 on the Country charts was inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with her husband Carl Dean at his local bank branch when they were newly married. 'Jolene' is the song most recorded by other artists, out of all the songs Parton has written.

John Howard Carpenter (born January 16, 1948) is an American filmmaker, composer, and actor. Most commonly associated with horror, action, and science fiction films of the 1970s and 1980s, he is generally recognized as a master of the horror genre.[1] At the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, the French Directors' Guild gave him the Golden Coach Award and lauded him as "a creative genius of raw, fantastic, and spectacular emotions".[2][3] On April 3, 2025, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[4]
