After 19 summers at Jacob’s Pillow, this will be the first year I won’t be spending the entire festival season there.
Nel and I have decided to take a bit of a step back this summer, which feels both emotional and exciting all at once. Jacob's Pillow has shaped so much of my life as an artist, and it’s impossible to fully express what it has meant to spend nearly two decades photographing some of the greatest dance artists in the world there.
This summer, the festival photographer role is being passed to Jamie Kraus, who has worked alongside me for the last several years. Jamie is a phenomenal artist and collaborator, and I’m genuinely thrilled to see her step into this role. Becca Oviatt and Grace Copeland will also be part of the photo team this season, and I’ll still be returning to the Pillow for two weeks in July while continuing to mentor and support the team from home throughout the summer.
There’s definitely some sadness in this transition. Jacob’s Pillow has been such a huge part of my creative life and personal history. But it also opens the door for new projects and new ways of working. This summer I’ll also be photographing work connected to Broadway, Lincoln Center’s new dance festival, Vail Dance Festival, weddings, and more.
Mostly, I just feel grateful.
Grateful to Jacob’s Pillow for giving me the space to grow up as an artist. Grateful to my wife, Nel, who first brought me into this world all those years ago. Grateful to every dancer, collaborator, student, and friend I’ve met along the way. And grateful to all of you who have followed and supported my work through all these years.
The journey continues. Just in a slightly different rhythm this summer. ❤️
