New research warns the UK Government’s proposed immigration changes could trigger a major migrant worker exodus.
Plans to extend the Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) period from 5 years to up to 10–15 years — possibly applied retrospectively — have raised concern among skilled migrants.
A survey of over 10,000 migrants found:
* 62% would seriously consider leaving
* 31% might leave
That’s a combined 93% potential exit rate.
Many workers — including nurses, engineers, IT professionals, and teachers — say they may move to countries like Canada, Australia, or Germany.
Health and social care sectors are most at risk, with up to 94% considering departure, raising fears of serious workforce shortages.
