Today is a special day for us in the American Legion veteran’s organization- still 2 million+ members strong - as we honor 106 Years of Service 🇺🇸

Originally formed by US soldiers on March 15th 1919 - four months after WW1 ended while awaiting transport back from Europe - the Legion has been a strong veteran advocate for the past 106 years in our local communities, with the famous 1944 “GI Bill” among its many, many successes 🇺🇸

In 2016, our Westbrook American Legion Post 62 was pleased to help support this wonderful downtown Westbrook recreation project - not far from our post - with a letter of support.
Unfortunately, the intended project resulted in an overall loss of recreational amenities to the community.
While that 2016-2023 project phase is now complete, it looks Westbrook may now have a new opportunity to improve this area even more.
Please join us in helping enhance the lives of youth and families in our community through taking ths brief survey attached - as every vote could help acquire critical federal funding.

Communities can be enhanced by "a sense of place" - i.e. how well citizens and visitors alike feel connected to their physical surroundings. We are well on our way to raise the necessary funds for our new roof at Westbrook American Legion Post 62 - and with the help of Jetblue’s Community Connection program - the public now has an opportunity to help our efforts reach the finish line for this building that has served as a community hub for 94 years!
On November 11th - Veterans Day 🇺🇸 - after the City of Westbrook’s 11am ceremonies - we’ll be drawing the winner of two round trip tickets good for a year anywhere that Jetblue flies - value up to $900. ✈️
$5 per chance, or iterations of 5 chances for $20.

Tonight at our monthly dinner and program - we are honored to have City of Westbrook Economic Development Director Dan Stevenson join us on project and development updates in the city.
All veterans and guests are welcome to our monthly dinners catered by Profenno's Pizzeria & Pub on the first Wednesday of every month - starting at 6pm at 17 Dunn St in Westbrook.

Today is a special day for the American Legion - over 2 million members strong as America’s largest veteran organization 🇺🇸
Originally formed by US soldiers in March of 1919 - 4 months after WW1 ended while awaiting transport home from Europe - the American Legion was granted its Congressional Charter on Sep 16th, 1919 🇺🇸
Since then, the Legion has been strongest advocate for veterans in the nation - counting the famous 1944 “GI Bill” among its many successes 🇺🇸
And in 2009 on its 90th anniversary, Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins from Maine led our US Congress to declare September 16th as American Legion Day 🇺🇸
Here in Westbrook, the first Legion Post ( #62) was established almost 100 years ago to the day, in October of 1919 - named after the first Westbrook soldier lost during WWI, Stephen Manchester. 35 years later, Westbrook added its second Post ( #197) at the end of the Korean Conflict 🇺🇸
