➡️ Know Before You Show: AQHA Memberships
➡️What membership types can show in the ________ division?
👉🏼OPEN (GENERAL): Anyone who possesses a general membership may show an eligible American Quarter Horse in an open AQHA class.
👉🏼AMATEUR (SELECT): May show in open and/or amateur classes at a show. However, amateur members may only show a horse that they either: 👇🏼👇🏼
1️⃣ Own and/or have an active show lease (SHW240) on file with AQHA.
2️⃣ Are related to (and have a relationship form on file with AQHA) the owner or lessee of an eligible American Quarter Horse. *This is required for both open and amateur classes at a show, excluding Rookie and Level 1. (SHW220)
👉🏼YOUTH: May show in youth and/or open classes at a show. However, in the youth division, members may only show a horse that they either:
1️⃣ Own and/or have an active show lease (SHW240) on file with AQHA.
2️⃣ Are related to (and have a relationship form on file with AQHA) the owner or lessee of an eligible American Quarter Horse. *This is required for all youth classes at a show excluding Small-Fry, Rookie, and Level 1. (SHW220)
3️⃣ Please see rule (SHW237) regarding a youth showing an unowned horse in the open division.
👉🏼JOINT MEMBERSHIPS : If a horse is listed as owned by a joint members and one of the holders wants to show that horse outside of Rookie/Level 1 in amateur and/or youth classes, then, the collective parties must either:
1️⃣ Be related to one another (with a relationship form on file with AQHA)
2️⃣ If the members listed as shared owners are not related, then an AQHA show lease with fees must be submitted to AQHA. The party wishing to show in amateur and/or youth classes would “lease” the horse from the other owner(s) for the purpose of showing.
👉🏼 RELATIONSHIP FORMS: These are mandatory for all memberships where more than one person is showing a horse and/or someone other than the sole owner of a horse will be showing. Please submit this form for all memberships, this also includes joint memberships, LLC’s, farms, family, trusts, business, ect.
SHW1005.1: All owners/lessees of horses being shown at an AQHA-approved event, must possess a current AQHA membership in the name of the registered owner/lessee with the exception of Rookie/Level 1 Youth, Rookie/Level 1 Amateur, and EWD classes.
