Between the Passing
I photographed this solitary flamboyán in Lake Worth, Florida, growing in a narrow strip of land between the railroad tracks and busy Dixie Highway.
Everything surrounding it was designed for movement—trains, automobiles, utility lines, fencing, buildings, and people traveling toward somewhere else. Yet the tree remained still, blooming brilliantly in a place most of us would pass without noticing.
Over time, I began to understand that this photograph was not simply about a flowering tree. It was about presence. Some things ask us to stop—not because they interrupt the journey, but because they remind us to pay attention while we are moving through it.
The complete story of *Between the Passing* is now part of the Photography Wing at Francisco Colón Studio.
