Thrilled to share that our Chief Events Officer, Elyse Marsh Large, has been selected as one of ConventionSouth’s 2025 Meeting Pros to Watch!

It means a lot to be recognized for the work happening here in the Tennessee Valley, and we’re grateful to the Dollywood team for the nomination and continued support. It’s a privilege to work in an industry where hospitality is at the heart of everything and to partner with people who embody it so well.

Building Destination TN Valley Events over the past few years has been such a rewarding journey - sharing the beauty of Knoxville and the Smoky Mountains, creating thoughtful experiences, and showing what a local-first DMC can do.

Lately, we’ve been spending more time exploring local spots and seasonal events — the kind of places that remind us why we love living in the Tennessee Valley and close to our communities.

This month on the blog, we’re highlighting a few of our favorite finds around East Tennessee:
–a family-run ice cream shop with homemade waffle cones
–a historic creamery brought back to life
–a neighborhood bakery that started as a blog and became a community staple
–and a small-town apple festival that perfectly captures fall

Each stop tells its own story — about food, tradition, and the people who make everyday moments special.

If you’re local, maybe you’ll find a new place to visit. If you’re not, we hope these stories remind you to slow down and seek out these small businesses and events on your next visit to East Tennessee.

Looking for something unique on your Smoky Mountains trip? Townsend, TN is full of hidden treasures.

The town has long been known for its antique shops, where you can stumble across everything from vintage treasures to quirky collectibles. Spend an afternoon “antiquing” and you might just outfit your whole home in one weekend.

For something a little more curated, stop at the Townsend Mercantile. It’s one of our favorite spots for gifts and souvenirs that are both cozy and stylish—think puzzles for rainy cabin days, candles for the campfire vibe, or a throw blanket to wrap up in after a day outdoors.

Townsend may be small, but the shopping here is big on charm. Add in the Parkway Drive-In for a nostalgic movie night or a quick detour to Blackberry Farm for world-class dining and gardens, and you’ll see why Townsend is more than just a gateway to Cades Cove—it’s a destination all its own.

Looking for outdoor adventures in the Smokies—without the crowds? Townsend, TN is the place to be.

This little mountain town is packed with ways to get outside and enjoy nature at your own pace. Rent a jeep and explore the scenic backroads. Try your hand at fly fishing in the Little River (and maybe even tie your own fly at Little River Outfitters!). Float the day away on a tube, or take a leisurely walk along the Townsend Riverwalk and Arboretum. And don’t forget to hop on a bike—the Shadows of the Past Trail offers 10+ miles of easy riding that connects you to many of the town’s highlights.

It’s all here on the Peaceful Side of the Smokies. For anyone who wants fresh air, fewer crowds, and the kind of mountain adventure that leaves you refreshed, Townsend is calling.

Have you ever wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge? Just over the mountain sits Townsend, TN—better known as the Peaceful Side of the Smokies.

We’ve been visiting Townsend for years, and while it has grown, it still offers the quiet charm that makes it so special. From tubing on the Little River to biking along the Shadows of the Past Trail, and from antique shopping to cozy local eats, Townsend has something for everyone who craves a slower, more authentic mountain experience.

In our latest blog, we share some of our favorite things to do, eat, and see in Townsend—including why it’s the perfect gateway to Cades Cove. If you’re planning a Smoky Mountains getaway, this is your sign to add Townsend to your list.

Well I said the last blog post recap was late, but then I realized I never posted about our first blog that launched in August!! And it’s about coffee shops, how could I miss that?!

We here at Destination TN Valley Events are so excited to introduce you to our new blog. We’ll be rounding up our local favorites from the surrounding area — from businesses and events to restaurants and coffee shops.

First in our lineup is a series we’re calling Off the Beaten Path, where we share some of our local haunts that might be slightly out of the way, but totally worth the detour. Don’t worry, we’ll give you all the details, including what we love about each place and where to find them (including other locations, if applicable).

We kicked things off with our favorite coffee shops. This is just Part 1 —because there are a lot of locally owned coffee shops to love in and around Knoxville.

First stop was Velocity Coffee & Roasters on Clinton Highway in Powell, followed byWrenhouse Bakery in Corryton, then we headed west to Coffee & Chocolate’s newest location in the Gallery Shopping Center in West Hills, and while we were out west, we wrapped up our coffee crawl at the newly opened Euro Delights Market & Cafe.

Get all the details on our blog - linked in bio!

We’d love to know: What’s your favorite locally owned coffee shop in the metro Knoxville area? Maybe we’ll put it on our list of places to visit and give you a shout-out in a future post!

We’re a little late sharing but this month on the blog, we’re back with another edition of our Off the Beaten Path series spotlighting local restaurants that caught our attention.

Our journey took us from Corryton to Norris and back to East Knoxville, rediscovering three unique spots with three very different stories. What do they all have in common?
They’re absolutely worth the drive—and each one is filled with some of the friendliest folks!

We’ll take you to The Chow Hall a small-town café with a military tribute and the best BLT in Corryton; Clinch River Brewing, a brewery with history, where the beer garden is as inviting as the menu and the burgers are every bit as good as the brews; and Tarik’s North African, a former pop-up bringing bold North African flavors to its first permanent home.

Discover where we went, what we ordered, and why these spots earned a place on our must-visit list. Read the full blog post on our website (link in bio)!

Where should we go next month? Drop your favorite local gems in the comments!

Ever heard of a DMC? Most people in Knoxville haven’t because we’ve never had one. Until now.

A Destination Management Company is your go-to partner when you’re planning an event or group trip from out of town and need someone local to handle all the details on the ground.

Transportation?
Venues?
Group dinners?
Custom activities your team will actually remember?
Yep—we take care of all that.

I started Destination TN Valley Events to help groups have seamless, stress-free, and fun experiences in East Tennessee. Because I believe our region deserves to shine and that great events start with local know-how.

A little peek into the parts of the event that keep me busy—and make it all so rewarding.

From early morning fun runs and basketball games to full-day meetings and and even a quick moment with Daymond John (!!) after his keynote—this week was full of movement, teamwork, and a whole lot of planning coming to life.

Add in some great food, thoughtful details, and a packed schedule, and you’ve got my kind of week: Fueled by checklists and caffeine, just the way I like it.

Behind the scenes is my happy place. 🤩

For this event, I handled the logistics that make everything click—think food & beverage, registration, housing, and keeping the trains running on time. I didn’t dream up these stunning theme dinners (Palm Beach Clambake and Karaoke Speakeasy? Yes, please!) but I did help make sure they came to life smoothly.

It takes a village—and I love being part of the team that makes it all run seamlessly.
