Day Camp Four

Art Camp was led by artist Jaki Wilkinson. Our library was transformed into a vibrant art studio, filled with color and creativity, allowing students to settle into their seats comfortably. Jaki sparked a lasting interest in art among the students, and the experience they had with her will remain with them for a lifetime.

A heartfelt thank you to Jaki Wilkinson for generously sharing her time and talent with our students!

Day Camp Three

The "Kids in the Kitchen Camp" was organized and hosted by the LSU AgCenter SNAP-Ed. During the camp, students learned about healthy nutrition and cooking, participated in games, and enjoyed preparing dishes such as Fruit-tastic Filled Pancakes, Smoothies, and Astronaut Pudding. A special thanks to Cathy Agan and Tara Garlington for partnering with us and making this camp possible.

July Day Camp Two focused on the "Skill It Up Basketball Minicamp," which was divided into four components.

Students in grades 1 through 8 learned about character building and teamwork from Tiffany O’Neal of The Wellspring, as well as the importance of nutrition and wellness from Cathy Agan and Tara Garlington with the LSU AgCenter. The highlight of the camp, which drew many students to sign up, was the opportunity to receive training from Professional NBA Player and Coach Kenny Natt, along with his coaching team.

A big thank you goes out to All Net Hoops Natt Elite Training and our partners for making the basketball camp possible!

Looking ahead, July Day Camp Three will begin on Monday and Tuesday with "Kids in the Kitchen Camp," provided by the LSU AgCenter.

Following that, July Day Camp Four will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday with “Art Camp”, led by Artist Jaki Wilkinson.

**July Day Camp One!**

Students had a fantastic time at the Reader’s Theatre Party today. Librarian Angela Greer from the Ouachita Parish Public Library welcomed everyone and shared information about the various libraries in Ouachita Parish. She provided the book "The Day the Crayons Quit" for Storytime and Reader’s Theatre, during which students also participated in an activity where they wrote their own stories. The Storytime session was led by our own Rachel Roach from the City of West Monroe. Tiffany O’Neal from The Wellspring facilitated an engaging icebreaker that the students enjoyed. Each participant received books donated by United Way of NELA for their Little Box Library, and they also took home literacy kits.

Stay tuned for July Day Camp Two, featuring the Basketball Skills Camp coming soon!

Kiroli Park was our last stop on our West Monroe Parks tour!

Mayor Staci met with students at Kiroli Park to give them a hands-on lesson in Sun Print Photography. The students went on a scavenger hunt to collect natural items to use for their prints. They exercised their imagination and creativity in choosing both the items and the design. Our Mayor was an excellent teacher, and the students completed two prints to take home. Afterward, they had the opportunity to play at Smiles Park. Later, they met Katie McClinton, the Kiroli Park Manager, who answered their questions and shared information about the park. The day concluded with a camping experience, complete with popsicles, and the students gathered all their activities to take home.

Our students showed improvement in Reading and Math. We are grateful to the Entergy Foundation, Rosemary Ewing Foundation, the City of West Monroe, and all our partners for making this program a success.

Day 18
During the West Monroe Parks tour, our students visited Miss Louisiana’s pageant rehearsal, where they met 2025 Miss Louisiana Teen Virginia Kirkpatrick and 2024 Miss Louisiana Olivia Grace George, and got a sneak peek at their rehearsal. Afterward, they continued the tour to 7th Square and the Farmer Market, thanks to Community Services Director Vicki Hilbun. They headed to Alley Park in Downtown West Monroe, stopping at the Courtyard on Cotton for a visit, thanks to Artist Jaki Wilkerson.

Day 19
Our students visited the Twin Cities, Krewe de Riviere, and the Krewe de Janus. They had the opportunity to see “Jessica from the news” with the Krewe de Riviere and were given a tour by two of their board members. Then, they toured the Krewe de Janus, thanks to Alan Barth. Later, they visited ULM’s High School Band Camp and watched a special performance by the drumline, thanks to Allen Parish.

Day 20
On Friday, the Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo visited with “A World of Difference” zoo buddies. They got to see a hedgehog from Africa, a bearded dragon, a flying squirrel, and a macaw up close.
