Which do you prefer?
Tutorial Post: Granite Links has a perfect view of Boston, but it’s 8 miles away. Getting that city to show up requires skill. The top shot is what a standard photographer gets.
- Natural light means the sky blows out and you lose the city.
- Wrong lens means the city looks 8 miles away and fades into nothing.
- I’m standing about 10 feet from them.

How to fix it?

- A long focal length standing about 60 feet from them and zooming in get the city to come in closer so you can see it.
- Exposing for the CITY, instead of the couple allows the city to appear, but. . .
- Then the couple is silhouetted so requires an extremely powerful flash to hit the couple so they are perfectly exposed as well as the city.

THIS is why you hire someone with 1400+ weddings under their belt. This is experience.

Photography is like a musical instrument. Getting it perfect requires practice and years of experience.

Having said all that, . . . both are gorgeous shots and the top has a softer look that’s gorgeous. BUT, if you pay for a view and that view is super important, getting someone who can get it is equally important.
