A day in the life of a florist with a 4 wedding weekend....

This was filmed a couple of weeks ago.

And I spent the morning freelancing for a local florist.

I worked on a couple of the bouquets but mostly worked on boutonnieres.

I also paused to make my daily orders.

In total I made 1 elopement bouquet, 1 bridal bouquet, 2 bridesmaid bouquets, 11 boutonnieres and 2 corsages.

Lilies can be stunning---but also MESSY if you don't know this trick 👀

Before every bouquet leaves my studio, I remove as many of the pollen heads from lilies as I can so they don't stain the petals, your clothes or your hands.

A small detail, but makes a big difference in how long your flowers stay picture-perfect.

Follow along with a big weekend of October weddings as a florist.

Monday is all about prep. Getting all of the supplies ready and making sure everything comes in correctly.

Not shown... Checking off the lists to make sure everything we ordered came in and that we have everything that we need in the correct colors.

Pre-ordering and organizing is a huge part of the job.

We also wash all of our greenery before it goes out. Half of the time it comes in with a dusting of dirt. We wash that off so the greenery is clean and shiny. Depending on the color palette and time of the year that also might mean cutting berries off of greenery.

By the end of Monday nearly all of our flowers are in water and on the cooler.

Prep these vessels with me....

Every lasting arrangement starts with strong mechanics. I skip the foam and use layered chicken wire — three layers for structure, hydration, and sustainability. Add water + flower food, and the blooms do the rest. 🌿✨

Garden style bouquets are all about movement and space---never compacted or mounded.

Each flower is woven through a base of hydrangeas, giving the bouquet natural separation and structure so every bloom can shine.

This is one of my favorite ways to design. Romantic and full of texture.

Some tips on holding your bridal bouquet from a florist....

1. Hold it lower than you think... As you get tense and nervous on the big day it will naturally rise.

2. Along with that make sure to keep your shoulders relaxed.

3. Angle the bouquet slightly out to show off the flowers. This shows the flowers off more and less of the stems.
