Thank you for your interest in the Villa de Cortez. The Cortez Hotel first opened its doors in 1928 as one of the valleyโs finest hotels. Civic-minded people realized that a first-class hotel was essential for the creation of an important and influential city. Land developers arrived in Weslaco via the train depot which was located across the street and walk over with luggage trunks in tow to stay at the new hotel. The Cortez offered all the โmodernโ conveniences of the day such as a telegraph office, a coffee shop, a barber and beauty shop, and a beautiful ballroom for all types of social engagements. The attractive, four-story structure of Spanish design held seventy-five guest rooms encompassing a beautiful South Texas courtyard. The long history of the hotel has since been interwoven with many memorable social activities in Weslaco.
On New Yearโs Eve of 1998, the Villa de Cortez reopened its doors to the Valley as a premier social establishment. The second floor was recreated with an atmosphere of an old Spanish Villa. After entering through a graceful cantera arch with a wrought iron gate, you are met with a unique wine cellar, a cantina, a library, a living room grotto, and a ballroom. The elegant Crystal Ballroom is ornately decorated with its โoriginalโ wooden dance floor and beautiful sparkling crystal chandeliers while an elegant red velvet bench adorns the length of one wall. A definite must see!
We invite you to be part of the Cortez history. The unique surroundings are perfect for your distinctive business or social event! Come make your own memories at the Villa de Cortez.
