I grew up going to work with my mom. She was the kitchen manager and I learned quickly what it meant to be in a kitchen.
My siblings and I all did. Each one of us started by doing dishes at The Club. I was 11. By 14, I was waitressing because my sister was sick one Thursday evening. I still remember my mom saying "well go get ready. Jess is sick so it's up to you" & I did not having any formal training. She told me I would be perfectly fine, I could do it. After that, I begged her to let me fry cook, but she made me wait until I was 16 to learn (legally have to but thought she would let me. After all, I was doing other things I shouldn't have been). After that, we spent many more days & nights in a restaurant kitchen.
This of course led me to choose culinary arts in college.
I quickly became lucky enough to take my mom to work with me.
Even if you did not meet her, she was a part of almost every meal I have catered. Countless phone calls, math ratios for portions, recipes, how to, and more. I'd call her again after an event to tell her who I met that she knew and that they said hello. She would come to my shop and help do anything I asked of her (mostly lol), but her favorite was delivering Valentine's Day items with her best friend Diane.
My mom would tell people I am a chef because I have proper training and she was just a cook. But she was so much more than that. Not only to me but to so many other "kids" she raised in the industry teaching them to cook and serve. She was a mentor to many and a mother to all.
I've told her before, I wanted to be just like her.

TEACHER APPERECIATION WEEK IS MAY 5-9 🍎
Order your teacher, para, admin, bus driver or lunch lady (or anyone you're thankful for) something sweet!
Orders will be taken through May 4 or sold out.
Orders may be picked up on Wednesday, May 7 4-7pm at Mom's Night Out! {at Weathered Wagon} in Alden, or Thursday, May 8 at my shop {in Wells} 10am-5pm.
We will also be having limited Mother's Day treat options at Weathered Wagon during Mom's Night out! Come over & see what we have for you!

Rock & Royal 🌹 Gala 2025
My 10th year catering the Bishop Garrigan Gala is in the books! I LOVED this theme!
Apps: charcuterie skewer, crab yummy, bacon wrapped asisgo date
Soup: asparagus soup with lemon creme fraiche
Entree: tenderloin of beef with mushroom Madeira, or breast of chicken stuffed with melange of cheeses with a cranberry glaze; augratin potatoes; green bean almondine
Dessert: strawberry almond shortcake encased in white chocolate with creme fraiche chantilly
A fun event for a great cause!
