⚠️Advice for new brides & grooms in quarantine who are online planning their weddings for a future date:
️⃣ Share Your Vision: Brides, never allow yourself to be bullied into agreeing to something that doesn’t feel right in your heart. As a designer, it is my job to show clients something new and fresh, but always with their vision in mind. I always remind myself that this is their event and not mine. I have always told my brides I’ll show you a design, but if you don’t love it, I’ll keep trying.
️⃣ Put The Bulk Of Your Budget Into What’s Important To You: Unless you have an unlimited budget, the reality is that you can’t have it all. You can, however, have a wedding that really highlights what is important to you and your partner. If you’re foodies, splurge there. If you’re dying for a couture dress, that’s where the bulk of your budget will go. Of course, I think decor should be your main focus, but thats just me.
️⃣Do Your Research: Spend some time researching planners, venues, florists and vendors (a good planner can help with this), share your vision clearly and hire people you trust, not just those who offer you the best price. In many cases you get what you pay for.
️⃣ Manage Expectations: A lot of brides hire a planner for the day of the event and expect the same level of service they would get from someone who has helped them plan from the beginning. This is not only unfair, but unrealistic. Planners who come in for the day can do a great job at keeping things streamlined, but they don’t have relationships with your vendors and have not helped to plan the event they are navigating. In addition, really look through contracts and ask questions with vendors to truly understand what your costs include.
️⃣ Let Vendors Do Their Jobs: Make sure you hire the right vendors and on your day, don’t micromanage. I have seen too many brides miss their wedding day because they were too busy trying to control it. Once you have your vendors in place, give them clear directions and then let them do their jobs while you enjoy your big day. Top of your list should be a great planner.
