Hamilton County Speedway

Hamilton County Speedway 1/2 Mile Semi-Banked Dirt Track The Hamilton County Speedway is the oldest speedway in the state of Iowa, opening in July 1910.

In 1938, work began on the current location at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The semi-banked half-mile dirt track was completed in the spring of 1939, and the first races were held on the track in September of that year. The track is located off of US 20 at exit 140, then 1.2 miles north, then 0.5 mile east on Bank St., then 0.4 mile south on Bluff St.

I want to thank Kathy, Bruce, and Mickie for their hard work on the Mike Baker Memorial Race. Double features this past Saturday and the racing was great. Congrats to all the winners in each feature and not one driver doubled up. Very close in the Hobby Stocks but a late race pass by Joshua Monson kept that from happening.

For the season we ended up with 7 features being ran throughout the 2025 race season. We did end up losing four nights to Mother Nature.

Stock Cars 23.85 average
B-Mods 14 car average
Hobby Stocks 17.14 average
Modified 16.42 average
Tuners 6
Crown Vics 8.2
Late Models 25
360 Sprints 15
305 Sprints 6

And just like that we averaged 79.61 cars per night.

That puts a wrap on the 2025 race season and we want to thank each and every driver, crew, sponsors, and fans for showing up this season when possible.

As everyone knows the future of the Hamilton County Speedway is unsure and the Hamilton County Fairboard is taking proposals for a promoter for the 2026 season. If you watch the social media pages there are several people that can promote just need to step up and make it happen. Just takes a little money.

Here is what I can tell you after being the promoter for the past 7 or 8 years.

The Hamilton County Fairboard is really easy to work with and just like most fairboards would love to see racing at there track.

The Hamilton County Speedway is a turn key operation you can walk right in and get things going.

If you was interested in promoting one event or 30 events its all up to you. Just have to get with Jamie in fair office.

The Hamilton County Fairgrounds is one of the nicest, cleanest grounds that we have been to and I can tell you we go to a lot of speedway/fairgrounds.

The facility has everything camping with dumpsite, hookups and water. Great pits area for up to 150 cars, and a historic grandstand with covered roof to help keep the beating sun off you.

We know a lot of people say bring back IMCA and you will get all the cars, most guys that have raced with us the past 7-8 years wants it just like it is.

Hopefully someone will step up and take the Hamilton County Speedway over keep the oldest racetrack going in 2026.

I do think the racing world is a lot different than it was pre-Covid and I know there are tracks that people just flock to every week. And honestly its not even about the cars its about getting people in the grandstands. Special events bring in more fans usually. I talked with a track in Missouri that makes great money every week he runs 8 classes of cars gets about the same amount of people as we are up here, but his total purse is around $7,500. I know tracks around here can get by with cheap purses, but racing has become so expensive to keep racers coming we need to pay good purses. Most smart racers will not sit and lose money every night and keep racing weekly. Several do I know it shows in car counts in area tracks and racers keep supporting them so why not keep paying terrible.

On average here at the Hamilton County Speedway a weekly show with help, insurance, purses and everything is around $17,500-$20,000. Now granted someone could come in and cut some of these costs for sure but we pay racers pretty good and most of them appreciate it.

Check it all out and get ahold of Jamie at the Fair Office and take a look at running the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, IA in 2026.

Thanks Todd & Janet Staley
