We offer Sunday Swims at least 2x/month for merfolk to learn & practice mermaid skills & safety under the guidance of NAUI certified Mermaid Fauna.

Join us tomorrow, Sunday March 29th for another Mountain Merfolk Sunday Swim at Haywood Regional Fitness Center, Clyde, NC from 1pm-3pm... or until 5pm (Fitness Center closes at 6pm, but pool closes at 5pm).

Our next Mountain Merfolk Sunday Swim happens this Sunday March 29th, 2026, from 1pm-3pm or until 5pm, with the Haywood Regional Fitness Center closing at 6pm.
Please reach out to Mermaid Fauna in advance e if you're interested in joining us. Free to attend the pod swim, but use of the pool requires a $15 day pass from the Fitness Center if you are not yet a member.

Next Sunday Swims for Mountain Merfolk:
March 29th and April 12th, 19th, 26th 1pm-3pm or until 5pm (locker rooms close at 6pm). Location: Haywood Regional Fitness Center Pool, Clyde, NC.
Free to Participate, but there is a $15 Day Pass for using the pool and fitness room facility, if you are not already a member.
Contact Mermaid Fauna of Mountain Merfolk with any questions. Participants should plan to bring their own monofin and tails. We do have a couple to loan for new mers, but arrangements should be made in advance.

Also, if you are new to mermaiding, it is recommended to have a private session with Mermaid Fauna prior to a Sunday Swim, so you can learn the safety and basics of swimming in a monofin before practicing synchronized mermaiding and tricks underwater in your monofin and/or tailskin. We do have a very basic swim test we like every mer to pass in order to swim in a monofin / tailskin.

Swim Test Guidelines (need to fulfill prior to putting on a monofin):
1) Swim Across the Pool and back (any style) without touching the bottom. Come up for breath as many times as needed.
2) Hold breath for at least 10 seconds under water.
3) Float on your back for 3 min without any flotation devices.

We teach you to do dolphin style swimming underwater prior to putting on the monofin, so if you already know how, that's helpful, and if not, we can teach you.merging.

This activity is recommended for adults, but mers under 16yo can participate with pre-approval IF a parent or guardian is present the whole time and IF they can pass the swim test. Private mermaiding lessons highly recommended for younger merlings.

Happy Holidays! We had a Merry Fishmas Sunday Swim with our Mountain Merfolk 🧜🏻‍♀️ 🧜🏼‍♂️
Pod at the Haywood Regional Fitness Center in Clyde, NC. Lovely Mermaid Koietta made a special trip from her new home at the coast to swim with us and our dear Mermaid Drusilla made time to swim with us too! We are so thankful and our hearts are full.

Swimming with these mers has been a big support over the past year as we navigate life together post 🌀 Hurricane Helene, not to mention the past 6 years some of us have been swimming together.

It's hopeful and inspiring to see our pod, our community, and nature itself evolving and moving forward through hard times. The storm has reshaped our landscape, waterways, and the lives of many, but we also see how it united our mountain communities... how we helped our neighbors and how we continue to rebuild our towns.

Come to the NC mountains and swim with your Mountain Merfolk. Better yet, hire us for your next party, festival, or event and help to support local artists in WNC. We can also be hired to video record special book readings, birthday songs, and birthday greetings for your child or loved one.
