🍂 This October, we celebrate the history, culture, and enormous achievements of Italian immigrants and their descendants. New Jersey hosts one of the largest Italian-American populations in the U.S., while many New Jerseyians claim Italian ancestry. The Italian people and culture are an important part of New Jersey's fabric.
📜 🚢 On November 15th, we welcome audience members to learn about our immigration history when we present Grand Pistachio's "Layer the Walls, Part 1: Turn of the Century." The largest migration of Italians to the U.S. occurred between 1880 and 1921, bringing more than 4 million Italians to American shores. The play illuminates incredible stories of resiliency, including Irish, Italian, and Russian Jewish families.
🎭 Meet Marco and Lorenzo, two Italian brothers who are featured in the play, surviving systemic discrimination and the blizzard of 1888. Their story is a microcosm of the challenges Italian immigrants faced then and the prejudices that still still exist today.
