Lighting matters more than the camera.
A decent phone with good light will almost always beat an expensive camera with bad light.
If you want better photos:
☀️ Have subject face or be at a 45º angle to a window, best if diffused.
☀️ Avoid overhead yellow lighting, we don't want raccoon eyes… yellowed!
☀️ Shoot earlier or later in the day, for less harsh sun.
☀️ Turn OFF extra clutter in the background, aim for simple backgrounds.

Simple changes make a huge difference.

People decide how they feel about your business before they enter it…Your photos are often your first impression.

Phone photos that are blurry, dark lighting, yellow (most restaurants have yellow lighting for ambiance but horrible for food), outdated or old images, or inconsistent styles for branding can quietly tell customers:

❌ “We aren’t established.”
❌ “We don’t pay attention to details.”
❌ “We don’t care…"
❌ “We aren’t current.”

Good visuals build trust before you even speak.
That doesn’t mean everything has to look perfect or overly polished… it just needs to feel intentional. Both photos from a pro and in house (phones) are both important but learning how to create phone photos are key!

Great food deserves to be seen 📸, not just tasted. 🍽️

When it comes to restaurants like Rusted Roost Restaurant and Bar, strong visuals do more than fill an Instagram feed… they should tell the full story of the experience.

Your photos also are multipurpose:
From Social media that stops the scroll… and hopefully makes your mouth water...
To website images that build trust before they walk in the door!
And who knows… can even print materials that reflect your brand in real life...

Because before a customer ever walks through your doors, they’ve already decided if your food is worth trying all based on what they see.

So show them powerful images. Investing in quality!!!

Updated food photography isn’t extra… it should be part of how you market, sell, and most of all stand out.

If your visuals aren’t matching the quality of your food, it might be time for an upgrade.
