On April 21st, we observe Yom hashoah-when we remember the 6 million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. We are reminded to never forget and never allow this to happen to others. This moving video says it all.

It is with a heavy heart, that I tell you about another shooting at the Chabad synagogue of Poway, California, a suburban area just north of San Diego. A 19-year-old gunman shot and killed one woman and wounded the Rabbi and two others. This anti-Semitic terror attack happened while worshippers were celebrating the last day of Passover (the Orthodox celebrate the Holiday one day extra according to tradition for Jews in the diaspora).
Tomorrow, we will be observing Yom HaShoah-a day to remember the martyrs and heroes of the Holocaust. This attack today is reminiscent of the hatred and bigotry which caused the death of six million Jews during WWII in Europe.
This makes it even more clear as to why we must remember what happened during that time, in order to prevent it from happening again. We, unfortunately, are mindful that this type of hatred and evil still exists in the world, not just against Jews, but as we have seen just recently in Sri Lanka, against other houses of worship: Synagogues, Mosques and Churches alike. We must stand up together to say “Never again!”
We pray for those who were affected by this senseless violence. We pray for peace in our world and must work together to help it happen.

At this time, we remember the struggles of the Jewish people and their freedom from slavery in Egypt. We pray that one day all people will be freed from oppression and slavery, bigotry and hatred. Then the families of the whole world will be able to celebrate freedom together on this day and on every day.

Congregation Emanu-El held a "Shabbat on the Beach" in late July! Here are some pictures from the event!
