Today marks 4 years. Four years ago tragedy struck our community. Our community came together even stronger as we mourned the loss of loved ones and tended to the injured. This day will forever be a hard one for Waukesha.

Work on the bocce ball courts continue!

First and foremost a huge THANK YOU to Dan D and Ben G, with assistance of Brian D, for cutting up all the wood! This was the biggest undertaking of the project to keep it moving forward.

Today, stumps were grinded down and area leveled out some. Now we will aerate the lawn a few times until snow falls to allow more moisture to pe*****te the soil. Then we will chip up the branches to use as mulch around the building

Join us this Sunday after Bingo for a few bonfires to get rid of some of the brush piles.

We are getting excited for early spring next year to level the yard with topsoil mixture and seeding!

PS…. If you would like some wood, come and grab it for we don’t need it all.

Busy day at Waukesha Elks! Two of our back trees are coming down to revive the grass for our bocce ball courts. After we clean up the trees, we will begin tilling and seeding for fall/winter to prep the grass for next year’s bocce ball league.

This will also produce more water for the new tree we planted between the bocce and horseshoe courts.

PS: Shout Outs to members Dan D, Ben G and Brian D for cutting up the trees and getting the prep going for next step.

**UPDATE** Clean up is practically completed at this moment until our next stage. Stump grinding happening Wednesday. After that tilling the courts!

Our Story

In the summer of the 1890’s blue bloods from the South filled Waukesha’s resort hotels in great numbers. These people, familiar with the luxurious ease and service of the old South, as well as other parts of the nation, came to drink of the health-giving waters they freely bubbled up from the local springs.

Many of the men who gathered here were Elks in their native citiies and the elite of Waukesha heard of the good work the order was achieving.

One of the frequent visitors at the Fountain House was Basil M. Allen, a Grand Lodge Office of the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks. Because of his enthusiasm he soon aroused interest among the men of our city to form a Lodge in Waukesha. Brother Allen was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Birmingham, Alabama Lodge and held in high esteem.

At the same time, another event was taking place that would alter their plans. The Wisconsin Central Railroad had its car shops and division office in Waukesha, and quite a number of the men employed there were also deeply interested in the Elks. The company announced the removal of the shops and offices to Fond Du Lac and scores of Waukesha residents were moved to that city. Fond Du Lac already had a Lodge - No. 57 - so these men joined that Lodge, but kept their contact with their old friends from Waukesha.
