Mount Madonna Center

Mount Madonna Center "You are in the mountains where there is fresh air and water, where there are trees and plants and streams. Sit with them and enjoy the creation of God.
(469)

God and creation are not separate. The idea is to attain peace.”
- Baba Hari Dass, SilenceSpeaks Mount Madonna Center is a conference and retreat center located on 355 acres of mountain-top redwood forest and grassland overlooking Monterey Bay, between Santa Cruz and Monterey, in Northern California. We are a community designed to nurture the creative arts and the health sciences within a context

of personal and spiritual growth. Founded in 1978, Mount Madonna was inspired by Baba Hari Dass and is sponsored by the Hanuman Fellowship, a group whose talents and interests are unified by the common practice of Yoga. We offer a supportive community atmosphere for relaxation, reflection, and a wide variety of learning experiences. Book a personal retreat, attend a yoga retreat, or choose to host your own program and guests in a gorgeous environment and with a supportive community. Program participants are invited to join in all ongoing Center activities – celebration, work, and play. Amenities include yoga classes, hiking trails, volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts, a pond (we call it "The Lake") for swimming, a hot tub, a gymnasium for volleyball and basketball, and Ayurveda consultations and bodywork at the Wellness Center.

Registration is now open for Going Deeper: A Focused Meditation Retreat 🕯️🙏

Join us on the mountain for a potent immersion in silence and sadhana (spiritual practice), where ancient methods meet your present moment to reveal what’s possible when we truly turn inward.

This immersive four-day retreat invites you to explore meditation, pranayama (breathing practices), asana (postures), chanting, and ritual — through a program designed specifically for this retreat by Baba Hari Dass. Supported by experienced Mount Madonna teachers and practitioners, you will experience a nurturing environment in which to quiet the mind and cultivate inner stillness.

To support you in turning inward, you’ll follow a simple diet, observe silence, and practice in an environment akin to seclusion. Devotional rituals, chanting, and spiritual stories are integrated throughout to create a sacred rhythm of practice and reflection.

This small-group retreat is intended for those with prior Yoga experience. Spaces are very limited, so this retreat fills quickly.

As we prepare burn piles for this winter’s controlled burns, we honor the wisdom of the Ohlone and Esselen peoples — the original stewards of this land. Their practice of “good fire” nurtured the forests, encouraged regrowth, and sustained balance in nature. 🌿🔥🦌

This Native American Heritage Month, we give thanks for their enduring relationship with this mountain and strive to carry their legacy forward through care, community, and reverence for the land.
