It’s been one year of Dinner For Ten.
We marked it by gathering around the table for our seventh dinner, this time asking: What Does Taste Tell Us? — a conversation about the ways our aesthetic choices reveal what we value.
We brought ten (almost) strangers together from different backgrounds and industries, gave them an incredible meal prepared by Maximiliano — who is opening a new restaurant in Blagden Alley next month! — and then did what we always do: asked a few questions and let the evening go where it wanted to go.
Nikki Daskalakis captured the night as it unfolded so beautifully. The photographs are stunning, but even more than that, she caught the people and the feeling of the night. Nikki, thank you for seeing people the way you do- it was so special to have you at the table.
And Sidra Forman — floral genius — brought the table and studio to life with arrangements made entirely from her garden. They felt wild and wonderful and exactly right for the evening.
Thank you Chef Max (Maximiliano) for a beautiful meal that felt so generous and caring- I felt so much love in each dish and I am so thankful for your willingness to be a part of our evening.
And to our other guests — Brian Miller Carlos Simon LEX MARIE CARL RAY MAKEUP ARTIST Robin Givhan J a i L e s c i e u r — thank you for bringing your thoughts, experiences, and ideas to the table. Thank you for taking an evening to sit with strangers, ask questions, laugh, listen, disagree, and come together over our shared love of Dolley Parton.
A year into doing these dinners, I’m still amazed by the people who walk through our doors and are willing to take a seat at the table with us. There is something really special about what can happen when ten people who might not otherwise find themselves in the same room decide to open up and really talk. Seven dinners in, I think that might be the thing I love most about Dinner For Ten. Cheers to a year, and we can’t wait until the next!
