Back in February I was so excited to capture some lifestyle photographs of this adorable, little family that I showed up to their doorstep a whole day earlier 😄.
⠀
As soon as answered the door I knew that I “messed up” :)! But my early visit ended up being pretty useful as we talked through clothing, ideas and sets and we were more prepared.

Them relaxing in bed, reading their sweet and super aware son a book must be my favorite ones.

Love capturing the bond and innocence between young kids and parents. Apparently they grow fast and change a lot through the process, but they all seem to be glued to their mommy’s when they are young. Audrey was happy as long as mommy held her!

An ALBUM Story - Swipe and Read

Albums are magical. They hold memories that we can access and touch whenever we want to feel closer and remember the ones we miss so much.
⠀
My mom bought us all (my sisters and I) a blank album where we could glue (good old days) our favorite memories. Mine is red and I inscribed my initials on the plastic cover.
⠀
As a child I LOVED this album and now I know it is invaluable to me. It holds some amazing childhood memories and some painful ones, as well.
⠀
My father passed away just a few months after our first and last family of 5 photo session.
⠀
Once I became older and understood why I don’t have a dad and what those few printed photos mean, so I would go in my sisters albums and unglue photos (not cool, I know) that meant a lot to me and I would glue them in mine. I rearranged this album of mine many times to make room for new “stolen” photos. Reason why it looks quiet weathered and my glue (white flour and water mixture) still smeared by my little fingers.

It was a personal project that I remember clearly and fondly and probably one of the best presents my mom gave me.
⠀
These days heirloom albums are much improved and a good album is meant to last 100s and be enjoyed for many generations without much degradation. It is also not necessary to ink your initials on its plastic cover or make your own glue to glue the photos in. It comes with precise cut mats that hold your memories or with sleek, flush mount pages for large images that can span over two pages.

As a photographer I am often attracted to photos that have something different.

Mostly of the times my subjects or their parents will not pick the ones that speak to me, which is perfectly fine. But in this particular case the mom also saw that something else and while there were plenty of perfect smiles she picked this one to be edited.

I still can’t believe just how wonderful this at home wedding was! Every single person involved had the best of attitudes and really made this event a highlight for 2020. Looking forward to more events like this for 2021.

Just as with weddings, my main concern when it comes to portraits is always the client.
⠀
Learning about what my clients need, want, are insecure about, love, etc. and on the other hand inform them on what I can do, what I can’t, what I need in order to achieve what they want, etc. is crucial.
⠀
But it goes even further than that. Taking photos and creating something is a two way street mostly of the times. 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐞. And when those clients “allow” me to be great magic is created and this world becomes a better place for both of us.

So far I have been mostly blessed with clients who not just trusted me, but also “allowed” me to be great. And when clients expectations were not met because of whatever reason I made sure to go the extra mile, understand why and come up with a plan to ensure they feel heard and taken care of.

I am still smiling from yesterday’s intimate, gorgeous at home wedding!
⠀
This couple and their wedding were equally beautiful and in Samar’s words “just incredible”.
⠀
She was not talking about herself per se, but rather explaining how it felt to finally be married after months of postponement.
⠀
When I asked her how she feels right after the ceremony, with the biggest smile on her face Samara said “just incredible”!
⠀
Yesterday was incredible for me, as well. Their kindness, care towards all the vendors and guest showed every step of the way, it barely felt like I was working except my back acting up as per usual.
⠀
Needless to say I am ending 2020 on a high note. In huge part because of my experience yesterday and because I choose to.
⠀
⠀
2020 thought me a lot. I had plenty of low moments and while I wasn’t ok at times, there were enough great things happening for me and those around.
⠀
⠀
While 2021 is almost here and it won’t feel any different at least for a while, I do hope that it will improve for everyone and that it will bring more blessings and happiness especially to those that need it the most.
