After over a decade of planning various Ethiopian weddings, I finally had the joy of witnessing my first Oromo wedding blessing ceremony — and it was truly unforgettable. 💛 Before the official ceremony, parents, elders, and relatives gather to offer heartfelt blessings for the couple’s future — prayers for wealth, children, harmony, and a life full of love.
One of the most moving moments was when the bride’s parents blessed the couple with milk in a wancaa glass, which they held together, symbolizing unity. Some blessings even included the beautiful tradition of smearing butter on the couple’s forehead (we decided to keep it on the plate to preserve the glam 😆) for security and happiness.
This ritual was so sentimental, so powerful, and I’m beyond grateful we included it for our couple — it meant the world to their families and set such a meaningful tone for the day. 🇪🇹✨
