Some pairings feel effortlessly meant for each other.

A recent round of site visits and planning meetings brought us through The Pierre, A Taj Hotel and Cipriani; two iconic New York City settings that complement each other so naturally for a wedding weekend experience.

The elegance and intimacy of Fifth Avenue.
The grand architectural energy of classic New York entertaining. Black-tie sophistication balanced with warmth and celebration.

This is the part of planning that often begins before couples even know exactly what they’re looking for.
Walking spaces. Understanding how guests will move throughout the weekend. Imagining ceremony moments, welcome dinners, after-parties, and the feeling each location creates.

And then come the planning meetings. The conversations where priorities, family traditions, guest experience, and personal style all begin shaping the celebration itself.
After 30 years, those early conversations still matter most.

The welcome matters just as much as the walk down the aisle.

Because the best wedding weekends don’t begin at the ceremony. They begin before anyone takes a seat at the ceremony. From the earliest plans to the first welcome and final farewell, I’m there guiding every step, every transition, and every moment in between.

Wedding planning has a way of bringing up a question that many couples never expected to face:

“How do we honor the people we love while still creating a wedding that feels true to us?”

Because somewhere between the excitement, inspiration boards, and planning checklists, opinions often start coming from every direction.

Some suggestions may genuinely resonate. Others may not.

And one of the most important things couples can learn is that listening thoughtfully doesn’t mean every idea has to become a decision.

There is a balance between valuing the people around you and protecting the vision you and your partner are creating together.

I recently wrote about navigating that balance because I see so many couples experience this during planning. It’s a conversation I think more people need to have earlier in the process.

Here are my tips for planning a wedding focused around what you as a couple want for your day.

Not all venues create the same experience. A recent site visit to Chatham Bars Inn reminded me just how much a setting can shape the entire experience.

Destination weddings are about more than the wedding day itself. They create an entire weekend of memories, travel, and meaningful moments with the people you love most.

While they bring a unique sense of adventure and connection, they also come with added layers of planning and coordination. From guest logistics to timelines and details across multiple events, thoughtful planning is what transforms a beautiful destination into a seamless celebration.

A recent visit to Glynwood was a reminder that some of the most beautiful wedding venues are the ones that feel thoughtful, peaceful, and naturally connected to their surroundings.

Part of my role as a planner is discovering and evaluating spaces long before couples even know where they want to celebrate.

That process includes:
• Walking the property in person
• Understanding the flow of the weekend
• Envisioning ceremony and reception possibilities
• Thinking through guest experience from beginning to end

And once couples begin planning, the real collaboration starts through our meetings together — discussing vision, priorities, family dynamics, guest experience, and all the meaningful details that make a wedding feel personal.

After 30 years in this industry, I still believe the best celebrations begin with thoughtful conversations and the right setting.

If you’re considering a Hudson Valley wedding, I would love to help guide that process with you.

The weddings guests remember most are rarely the ones trying to look like everyone else’s.

They’re the ones filled with personality.

A favorite late-night food brought onto the dance floor.
Custom Coke bottles waiting at the bar.
Nike sneakers chosen for comfort and style.
NY Yankees ice cream helmets making an appearance at the reception.

These details may seem small individually, but together they create something far more meaningful: a wedding experience that genuinely reflects the couple behind it.

One of my favorite parts of this work is being entrusted with those personal touches — the pieces of a couple’s story that make the celebration feel unmistakably theirs.

Because beyond beautiful design, the goal is always to create an experience guests feel connected to long after the night ends.

Why a Planner Matters Early | There’s a moment early in planning where everything still feels possible. And that’s exactly when the right decisions matter most.

The venue, the flow of the day, the team behind it. These aren’t separate choices. They’re connected. And when they’re aligned from the beginning, the entire experience feels effortless.

This is where I come in.
Not just to plan, but to guide, to refine, and to ensure every decision supports the vision as a whole. If you’re recently engaged and starting to explore what’s next, this is the time to begin the conversation.
