We have some exciting news to share and we need your help to make it happen.

We are in the early planning stages of a fall Urban Homesteading Expo in the Kansas City metro area, and we are on the hunt for the right venue. We know it is late in the game for a November event and we are being realistic about that - but we also know that the right connection can come from the most unexpected places, and that is where you come in.

We have already reached out to a few venues and are waiting to hear back, but we are casting a wide net because we believe this event is worth fighting for. If you know of a space that might work or have a connection we should talk to, we would love to hear from you.

Here is what we are looking for: a fully indoor space in the KC metro area available November 6th and 7th, 2026. Ideally 9,000 to 10,000 square feet of open floor for vendors and exhibitors, one or more classroom spaces that can seat 50 to 80 people, ample parking for a large crowd, and room for food vendors. That said, we are flexible. We can work with something a little smaller or piece together multiple connected spaces if needed.

Got a lead on a large church fellowship hall? A school with a gym and classrooms? A community center? A conference space? An event hall? We want to hear about it. Drop a comment, send us a message, or email us directly at [email protected].
Help us bring this event to Kansas City this fall!

Big news is coming out of Mid-MO Homestead Expo headquarters, and we could not wait any longer to share it. Mark your calendars: the Spring 2027 Mid-MO Homestead Expo is officially set for April 9th and 10th, and we are moving into the Mathewson building at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. More space, more vendors, more speakers, more of everything you loved about this year.

We are also in the early stages of planning a fall event, so stay tuned for details on that as things come together. We want to make sure we do it right before we shout it from the rooftops.

In the meantime, we are getting close to opening things up for vendors and speakers/teachers for the spring expo. If you have been thinking about applying or know someone who would be a great fit, now is a great time to follow this page and sign up for our email newsletter at www.midmohomesteadexpo.com so you do not miss a single announcement. Drop a comment or share this post with someone who should be in the room!

Did you know: when she's not answering emails and coordinating with speakers, Melissa is a foraging educator? She's your super local resource for identifying what's growing in your yard and how to use it.

This is the kind of thing you don’t get from a YouTube video.

Watching someone work, asking questions in real time, seeing the process up close… there’s just no substitute for it.

We had some incredible speakers sharing real, hands-on skills this year, and we’re already working on bringing even more of that into next year’s event.

What’s a skill you’ve always wanted to learn but haven’t yet?

There’s always that one booth you stop at “just to look”… and then somehow you’re still there 20 minutes later.

Happens every time.

Between the conversations, the creativity, and the personalities behind the tables, it’s hard not to get pulled in.

That’s the kind of energy we’re building on for next year.

Make sure you’re following along as we start sharing updates… it’s already in the works.

You can tell when something is made with care.

Whether it’s soap, honey, or something a little more unexpected… there’s a difference when it comes from someone who actually uses what they make.

That’s the kind of thing we try to fill the space with.

Not mass-produced. Not cookie cutter. Just real.

We’re already looking ahead to next year and keeping that standard front and center.

What’s your favorite type of booth to wander through?

Vendors like this are what keep things grounded.

Real tools, real systems, real people who are out there doing the work and helping others do the same.

We love getting to highlight folks who are passionate about what they bring to the table.

As we plan for next year, we’re thinking hard about how to keep that balance—useful, practical, and community-driven.

If you’re a vendor or thinking about it… what would make an event like this worth your time?

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s this…

People want to stay connected.

Not just for event updates, but for everything that comes with it—classes, resources, local opportunities, and good people doing good work.

We’re working on making that even easier going into next year.

Make sure you’re following along here so you don’t miss what’s coming next.

This right here is where a lot of folks get hooked.

Wild foods, simple ingredients, and the kind of knowledge that used to just get passed down from neighbor to neighbor.

It doesn’t have to be complicated to be valuable.

We love bringing these pieces into the expo and connecting people with folks who actually live this way every day.

Have you ever tried foraging or making something from wild ingredients?
