Perfect setting for this moving performance…

“Thank you guys. Mahalo for your performance. For me, like a lot of things with the work that I’m doing down in Waihe’e and, you know, just going through Kaiapuni, being my mother’s son, I’ve been lucky enough to be exposed to Hawaiian culture on a different level.. And the main thing for me is to make sure that the stories that we tell and the work that we do is a thing that can inspire people to really look at the world in a different perspective. And to, you know, make sure that they find a way for themselves to grow within their own culture, and just find people who help, you know, do good things. This was very beautiful, the inspiration and the expression of the story with the movements, and as you watch the movements that happen on the stage, you also see other things happening around the stage. That really enhances the performance. And those are the things that we strive to be more aware of, as far as being able to connect to people and how they express themselves and how we express ourselves as well. So it’s very beautiful to see all those things kind of come together and the accuracy and authenticity was really good. And that’s the main thing, right, is being able to express aloha, Hawaiian values, but it can also be expressed in different ways. And that’s how we work to keep our ike relevant in this time – is finding other ways to keep it authentic. Thank you.” — Kiaʻi Collier
