Kindness is free. A reminder that your words matter, and you truly have no idea what someone else is battling behind the scenes.
I am VERY upfront about my life, my children, and my communication. I try to keep people updated, I try to be as transparent as I can, and I talk about what’s going on in my life more than most people probably realize.
I’m human. I’m a mom. I’m a business owner. And I’m also navigating things behind the scenes that not everyone will ever fully understand as a mother to a child with severe special needs.
If grace is not something you can give me, that is completely okay. You don’t have to understand my life, agree with me, or even choose to support my business.
But this? This is not it.
There is a difference between being frustrated with someone and choosing to speak to them in a way that is hurtful and unkind. You can communicate your feelings without tearing someone else down.
You never know what someone is carrying, what kind of day they’re having, or how much they’re trying to hold together just to keep showing up.
Behind Perez Parties is a real person with a real life, real responsibilities, and a family that will always come first.
Am I great at communication? No. Sometimes I take a while to respond. Sometimes my responses are short. Sometimes I get overwhelmed, and responding to messages isn’t at the top of my list. I can own that, and I will never pretend to be perfect. But I also never imagined I would have to explain that I might be slow to respond because I’ve spent the entire day on the phone with insurance trying to get my six-year-old a new wheelchair. That I might be walking into our FIFTH appointment of the week, and it’s only Wednesday. That at night, while other people are sleeping, I’m lying beside my child’s bed so she can rest while I can still read her pulse.
I will always do my best to communicate, to be honest, and to show up for the people who trust me with their events. But I am also allowed to be human.
Give people grace when you can. Choose kindness when you can. And remember that the person on the other side of your screen is a human being, too.
