We should mention a happy “belated” birthday to one of our most famous local Wabash celebrities, Gene Stratton Porter!
We take special mention to her birthday as the dining room at the clubhouse bears the name, “The Porter Dining Room”!
For various reasons, the room is filled with original antiques from her family, first edition books written by Gene and no doubt Gene herself may have had to visit the building at one time being that we were the first hospital in Wabash County!

She was a true “Renaissance woman”, ahead of her time, heading out to Los Angeles to become a filmmaker, building a castle in the sky in fashionable Bel-Air, she did not really get to enjoy her new life for very long before we lost her way too early to a tragic accident.

Gene’s works are truly poetic works of art that are now and forever encapsulated in history for all to enjoy young and old!

Also, those who remember her are probably long gone by now, but you can still pick up a book of hers, and truly enjoy reading through her words, and envisioning what she loved most, nature, animals, landscape, adventure, the people around her, that made her books a true enjoyment of “yesterday”!

Maybe you have one of her books on your shelf at home?

🎂 September’s Cake for a Cause 🎂

Cake for a Cause is my monthly fundraiser!
- You enter by following the instructions on this post and donate money for a local non-profit organization right here in Wabash. As a “thank you” for your participation, I pick out a winner for a full-sized cake each month!

In honor of September being my birthday month, I want to make my favorite cake… Chocolate Strawberry 😍

This month, Wake & Bake is honored to support the Wabash Woman’s Clubhouse!

For over 130 years, this beautiful historic building has been an important part of our community—first as an orphanage, then Wabash’s first hospital, and today as a place where people of all ages can connect, learn, and participate in meaningful programs and events.

Here is a brief message from the Vice President of The Woman’s Clubhouse Association:

“The Woman’s Clubhouse is a not-for-profit in the heart of the city of Wabash. Moving forward, our dedication is to revitalize and preserve the building, by fundraising, sponsorships, memberships, and grants.

We’re trying to raise awareness by doing all of the above!
With community support, we hope to achieve many more projects of interior and exterior maintenance and beautification to the property!

We are happy to announce that we are back for another round of programs luncheons and events for the 2026 and 2027 Clubhouse season!

Membership packets have went out by now, if you have not received your packet AND OR would like to become a new or revised member, send us a message and we will take your information and send you one out in the mail! ( a few corrections need to be made on the program and so you can pick up one of those at any of the luncheons or at the clubhouse on your next visit) !

 Remember if you have placed a “Mum” order, Pick Up will be this day, you will come into the front door, (pay for your luncheon reservation at the front door) and your “Mum” order , ( over into the right side lounge area) then right after lunch and the program , The volunteer group will help you load those into your car!

Well!
What a season we’ve have had! 💐🌺

We want to thank the many supporters, members, donors, and friends that the Clubhouse has acquired this season!

The luncheon yesterday was wonderful!

So many familiar faces, the weather was beautiful, the food was outstanding and we can’t wait to see you in September with new updates and a new lineup of programming for you all to enjoy! 

As a reminder, we will be getting the membership packets together this summer and mailing those out sometime in July!

We want to thank all of our membership, donors, longtime sponsors, and supporters, and the Board of Directors for another season at The Womans Clubhouse!

We will be taking “Mum” orders for fall delivery in September- and a sign-up sheet will be going around during the luncheon! 🪻

The clubhouse will be decorated in beautiful springtime colors, and hopefully with the weather holding out, we will be open with the back porch for dining as well! ☀️ don’t forget to take a walk-through our gardens to look at all the beautiful flowers Ken has planted!

You will want to stay plugged in on our page as we will have a few events throughout the summer as fundraisers!
