A Window into Vincennes History
As you prepare for one of life's most memorable moments, take a step back in time.
The mural before you recreates J. & H. Ostendorf Jewelers as it appeared around 1960, when this space was home to one of Vincennes' most beloved businesses. For generations, families visited Ostendorf Jewelers to purchase engagement rings, wedding bands, anniversary gifts, and treasured keepsakes that marked life's biggest milestones.
Founded in 1854, J. & H. Ostendorf Jewelers served the Vincennes community for more than 115 years, remaining a Main Street landmark until 1969. Few businesses in Indiana enjoyed such a remarkable legacy, making it one of the city's oldest and most enduring downtown establishments.
Today, the very space where customers once selected symbols of love and celebration has been transformed into The Grand Bankquet Hall. It seems only fitting that a place once known for helping couples begin their journey together now hosts weddings, receptions, anniversaries, and family celebrations of its own.
This mural honors the history of the building while reminding us that, although businesses may change, the memories created within these walls continue to last for generations.
