The New York Times is so incredibly careless for publishing this. The result is going to be hundreds or thousands of engaged couples thinking that these are real numbers and then they get sent into a spiral when they start wedding planning and realize they are not. I especially like the fact that they ask brides who got their gowns from David's bridal, a discount wedding store, how much they spent on their wedding cake… There's a good chance that their budget will be on the lower end and plenty of places include the cake with the venue so why is it even necessarily a line item… And then they put a picture of a multi thousand dollar cake as the background to that text. If you can't see the full video it's over on my TikTok.

This is a true story. As a wedding planner, I want to know that the tables with linens will be set and ready for early arrival. This is essential so that my florist can start at the time they need to. This one time, we were assured the tables would be set THE NIGHT BEFORE and were told we could come as early as 7am....my florist planned for 9am and upon arrival there were no tables, no linens and two employees that didn't know what we were talking about. So when your venue says they have a day of coordinator/wedding planner in-house I assure you they do not because WE were there to handle this and they didn't show up until noon...

Backyard weddings are full scale productions that require time, effort, and true professionals because you're literally creating a venue from scratch. Things people take for granted at a venue like tables, restrooms, lighting, electricity and more have to be considered way in advance. It's super important to bring a wedding planner on from day one to navigate all of the details.

I'm so blessed to have a husband who listens to me vent for an hour straight without taking a breath

My husband constantly jokes with me about how I will find the most elaborate decor, and say it's not that big of a deal it's fine…

I will never understand the passive aggressive attitude that so many people have within the wedding industry. Putting together a wedding is a team sport, but there are many members of the wedding industry that think they are above everyone else and put their egos upfront which means they're actually not that invested in the outcome of the wedding day or the happiness of their clients. And for the life of me, I can't understand why, if you are generally just not a nice person, why of all industries to work in you would pick one that is about love and happiness. Like go work for corporate or something and take that attitude elsewhere.

What went wrong on your wedding day? Well, if I'm your wedding planner, you won't know the answer to that question unless you ask after the wedding day has ended. At least every other wedding has something that goes left and it's my job to make sure that the couple never finds out and that the problem gets solved quickly and quietly. Just another reason to have a professional planner by your side… Because do you really want to deal with none of your stationery showing up or all of the linens being in the wrong color?

If I had a dollar for every time a venue or a vendor has contacted me on a Monday about a wedding they had over the weekend where the person playing planner caused more issues than they've ever seen before, I could retire 10 times over. I don't say this to boast or anything but, the industry is saturated and it's not regulated whatsoever. The honest truth is, anyone can just call themselves a wedding planner and start out by offering five dollar packages and over promising on things that they will never be able to deliver. But a wedding is a team sport and unless you have a planner with experience, then the person that you hire to do the planning may do more harm than good and in the end, you've wasted your money… No matter how good the deal was.

I have done a lot of reality shows, but none of them made me absolutely terrified like this one 😂😂 Thankfully, this went SO well and I cannot sit for y'all to see it!!

I would never charge a couple for not using my recommended vendors, but I do think you're wasting part of your wedding planner investment if you don't take all of your wedding planner's vendor suggestions. Basically, the only reason that a planner would charge a couple for not using their vendors is because they're losing out on commission…

I've always just been authentically me… Before being authentic was considered cool. My clients get the same person and the same energy that my best friends get. I don't switch it up and become someone else… I stay that same person with my couples that my friends know they can trust with literally anything. And I honestly think being an authentic person is a wonderful characteristic to have as a wedding planner because a wedding needs to be about authenticity above anything else.
