Do you ever see posts like this in your feed? As an event and wedding planner, I’m definitely in the algorithm for this sort of post. Admittedly, I clicked to see if I agree.
And you know what? I never do. This particular post talked about how many speeches were cringey, whether or not you have seating arrangements, etc.
Posts like this are meant to make you think you need my guidance, but I think in reality, you’d read it and think I don’t want a wedding planner who is going to judge me and maybe even scare you off from hiring a planner at all.
That’s certainly not the play here at Events by JEM or if I’m being honest, any of the planners I know in the area. We don’t sit around and talk about how cringe your choices are.
We celebrate you. We celebrate your happy moments, your dad’s heartfelt speech, your first dance, your goofy friends, your mom’s sweet tears, your love for eachother. We celebrate each and every wedding and event being undeniably, unmistakably you.
Yes, I’m going to give you guidance if my experience tells me your best man making an entrance by swinging from the chandeliers is going to end with your cake on the floor, if the sunlight in an outdoor location is going to blind your guests and wash out your photos, if the police might be called for literally any reason, if you’re not buying enough beverages to get through the night, if your location doesn’t have a parking lot and your guests have to walk through soggy grass in stilettos - that’s my job.
But am I judging you for not being a wedding expert, having a budget, your style, your family, or for wanting your wedding to be the absolute perfect day for YOU and no one else? Never in a million years. This is YOUR one in a million day, not mine. I’m just here to make it the best day ever for you.
So if you see a tear fall from the corner of my eye in the moment you say I do after months of working with you, know it’s not because I hate the way you wanted your napkins folded, it’s because I’ve got nothing but joy and love for the life you’re creating. And I’m celebrating you.
