On March 16, 1998, I, along with my deceased friend Albert Alonzo, registered the name Multi-Mixxez Mobile DJ, as a business to provide professional services in the state of Texas.
Prior to this, I was a bedroom DJ and I would practice at least two hours a day. I honed my skills on the turntables. On some weekends, I listened to DJs from the radio stations in the big cities, such as Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Tampa Florida. Florida is where I got my introduction to Hip Hop and the wheels of steel. I would emulate their techniques. I am self taught, since we did not have internet then and hip hop hardly got played on the radio.
After attending several Quinceañeras and weddings here in Uvalde, I knew I could do a great job as a DJ, so that is when I decided to go into it as a business and buy speakers and lights, because I did not own that. I had the most important thing, the mixer, turntables, records and skills.
Before playing to get paid, I would DJ a family party here and there, since I did not really own a big PA system.
And as they say, the rest is history.
I consider myself to be truly blessed and fortunate to be trusted for people's important lifetime events.
Another thing I really appreciate is customer loyalty. There are some families where we have done all their daughter's Quinceañeras. On some families we have done their quince, high school graduation and their wedding.
Several of our customers have become life long friends too.
Thank you to all my previous, current and future clients for your business. I could not have done it without you.
And all the past and current members of Multi-Mixxez Mobile DJ. Thank you for being there and a part of the process.
I can't leave out the guys who only helped me out a couple of times. I am grateful for that too. You made the event possible.
On another note, the main downside to being an active mobile DJ is that you get to miss a lot of family events, because you are booked and binded to a contract. Now I tell all my family that is having a Quinceañera or a Wedding to let me know at least a year in advance, because I often get booked up to a year in advance, or more sometimes.
In my early years of being in a mobile DJ, I missed out on a lot of nights going to Mexico to party with my cousins.
