We're excited to announce that TWO Uptown Improv Co. ensembles — Post Modern Family and Real Housewives of Hell — have been selected to perform at the inaugural ImprovCon 2026 in San Diego!
ImprovCon is a first-of-its-kind convention celebrating improvisational theater through performances, workshops, panels, and community connection. More than a festival, it's an immersive experience designed for improvisers, fans, teachers, students, and anyone who believes in the power of play.
Post Modern Family is a long-form improvised comedy that centers on a single dad and his two grown children as they navigate the messy, funny, and sometimes awkward reality of life after divorce. Each performance begins with a suggestion from the audience and unfolds through a series of interconnected scenes exploring shifting roles, unresolved tensions, and everyday moments that define their new dynamic. Through grounded characters, surprising turns, and emotionally honest comedy, Post Modern Family finds humor in generational clashes, lingering resentments, and the strange ways people continue to care about each other even when everything feels a little broken.
The Real Housewives of Hell is a character-driven long-form improv show inspired by the structure and chaos of reality TV. Using an audience suggestion as the title of the episode, the cast explores the theme as “hellish housewives”. The show follows a montage format, with recurring characters, evolving relationships, and emotional arcs. It incorporates reality TV devices such as confessionals and dramatic music cues to heighten the parody and enhance storytelling. While the tone leans absurd, the show stays grounded in strong dynamics and emotional game. The result is a reality TV fever dream of the hellish rich and famous.
The inaugural ImprovCon takes place August 20–23, 2026, at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego, and we're proud to have two Uptown ensembles representing Utica on the national stage.
