We want to give a special shout out to our Composer-in-Residence, Rogelio! He had his AMAZING debut of, “Maltos Concerto Grosso No. 1”. Give it a looksee to understand why we say

*We are extremely sorry, but, unfortunately, due to the busses being an hour late from triple routing and our concert also running an hour late as a result, we were not able to have the 8th grade band concert filmed. They were informed of this the next day. We apologize and we will make it a point to reserve a videographer for up to 2 hours over the projected finish time to avoid this issue occurring ever again.

Our 7th grader band wanted to show you what we’ve been been cooking up as we look to next year! What you see here is a result of many of the changes we have made that has led to an explosion of numbers in our program over the last few years!

Because of this growth in both size (over half of students in 6th-8th grade will be in band and orchestra) and opportunities, we project to have a larger program than even some nearby 6A schools, despite having such a small middle/high school. For this reason, we are starting our first…. Drum roll please…..

BIEMS Joint Band and Orchestra Booster Club!

If you are a guardian of a current or former student, (an adult) alumni, or a strong supporter, we would love to have you be a part of our first set of super volunteers helping us further maximize the potential, success, and opportunites of our programs. CONCERT VENUE UPDATE:

If you’re planning on coming to the band concert at 6pm on 4/8, we will be hosted by the wonderful Jason Morgan at Frederick Douglass High School!

Reflecting on now:

Looks like official contest season is a wrap! You know what that means! Photo dump and bravos!

7th and 8th orchestra in, Ms. Millirons first year, coming strong with I’s in Sight Reading and I’s on stage!

7th band did well with I’s in Sight Reading and II’s and III’s on stage.

8th band had a great performance but came up a little short on the results we felt we earned with III’s on stage and II in Sight Reading.

We celebrated with some Main Event on the windiest day of the year and got an extra free day at Main Event out of it!

And we finished it off with the following solo and ensemble results which you can find in the link below.

Band: we had 6 soloists who received 4 superiors and 3 excellent ratings (one of them kicked butt on both flute and bassoon), our brass ensemble received an excellent, and our first ever BIEMS percussion ensemble, comprised of only 7th graders, received a superior!

Orchestra: our soloists had 4 superiors, 1 excellents, and 2 good ratings! Our ensembles received 4 superior 1 excellent, 2 good ratings!

Way to go all!

On to the future:

Next week we get to do our annual partnership with Putnam City to have 6th graders (and, some of them - their older siblings get to join) perform their own solo and ensembles!

We will finish off the full year with our first ever soccer Pep band on 4/7 and kick it on stage on stage with the band on 4/8 (more deets to come).

We will have a full concert for you in a great venue in an actual auditorium on an actual stage with the following on our program:

Belle Isle 8th grade band doing what Belle Isle does: getting better and eating Cici’s!

Thank you to the wonderful Ms. Kelli Taylor from Harding Charter Prep coming in to clinic our band! She brought a lot of wisdom, a lot of laughs, and a lot of high quality music making to our band! Here’s to no more snow days (or at least not after next week…. Pretty please…)

Special shout out to our 7th graders cool enough to play 8th grade level music on a second instrument!

Our 7th grade set the stage with their performance and then, in yet ANOTHER first for our band program, we had the FIRST EVER 6th grade band to perform at the OKCPS OSSAA Band Clinic. Proud of all of our kids, especially the 6th grade who proved they are highly motivated to and

Fun fact: one of the 6th grade’s songs they played is normally for our 7th graders and it’s only February. Mr. Hall just conveniently never shared that 💁🏽‍♂️🔥💪🏽

P. S. Mr. Hall has dubbed himself the Cicis Pizza eating champion. He just didn’t wanna show y’all up … yet 👀

Some of our French horns in 7th and 8th grade joined them “on stage”… little did they know they would be sight reading with a college horn group for a class performance today! 💪🏽

We want to thank University of Central Oklahoma’s French Horn Quartet for reaching out and coming to perform for our students! They loved it and were extremely excited about it!
