It’s about time we shared more of our expertise - what are the questions planners ask? A new series where we dive deep into our thought process for different aspects of wedding planning, design, and production. Today - the ceremony.
1. Where is the sun going to be during the ceremony? Will it be in the couple’s eyes, create harsh shadows, or give us beautiful backlighting?
2. What is behind the couple at the altar? Is the backdrop visually clean and intentional from every guest-facing angle?
3. How wide should the aisle be? Enough room for the dress, escorts walking side-by-side, florals, and a comfortable processional.
4. What’s the best ceremony chair orientation ? How many rows and how many chairs to a row are needed for guest count/reserved seats? What’s the best floor plan based on the grounds?
5. What will guests see before the ceremony begins? Are vendor setups, vehicles, equipment, trash cans, or other distractions visible?
6. How will the wedding party be spaced at the altar? Where does everyone stand so it feels balanced rather than crowded or uneven?
7. What happens to the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony? Who takes it, when do they take it, and when does she get it back?
8. Where do personal items go? Phones, tissues, vows, rings, lipstick, water—who is responsible for each item so nothing ends up awkwardly in photos?
9. How will the processional actually flow? Who walks with whom, how far apart should everyone be, when does the music change, and who cues each person?
10. What happens immediately after the first kiss? When does the recessional music start, which direction does everyone go, and where does the couple head once they’re out of guests’ sight?
