So you want to make your wedding memorable with small details, but you've seen it: there is so much waste at a wedding.

Some ways to keep the money well spent is looking at what guests typically do not want:

Tons of cake. Guests are now more health conscious. They'll take smaller bites or choose to skip the dessert course. Scale down your cake and shift the savings to a healthier alternative.

Favors. A giveaway is a nice gesture, but would your guests really need this? Get a set amount and have your coordinator hand them out as guests are leaving. This will make sure guests who want them will take them and they won't end up on the floor at the end of the night.

Printed materials. More times than not, we see these used as fans after a quick glance. Do you often want to bring these programs or menus with you to your living room to re-read? Try getting a larger printed board or one standing menu per table to reduce the cost on printed goods!

That way, whenever you smell that fragrance, you will be reminded of your special day. Do you have any tips you would li...

Which one are you thinking for your wedding?

If you're holding the bouquet, remember to match it with your dress(es). Some arrangements may be too loud, too wide or too small depending on the dress style.

Pick a few arrangement styles you'd like and consult your florist when making the final decision on which would be the bet fit for your wedding!

Take these tips with you!

1. ENGAGEMENT PICTURES - Use this opportunity to get to know your photographer and their style. See if they are the right fit for you through a smaller session. The best part is that you can use these shots for your wedding and showcase you and your partner's fun moments through a professional lens.

2. DELIVERY TIMES - Get your vendor's delivery times on paper! It's important to know when your vendor is arriving so that you can follow up with them should they run late. Who knows what may have happened if they are running late. Imagine calling to check on a delivery just to find out the centerpieces you order had been broken and the decorator is scrambling to fix things - you'd want to know how to get your vision together with them! These things DO happen, and it's better to be more detailed than not!

3. GUESTBOOKS - Guests have traveled near and far to gather for your special day. Add a fun touch where you will treasure a loving note that you can open up on anniversaries or while strolling down memory lane to be reminded of all the friends and family members who supported your union.

Shameless Plug: If you have a planner, this part can be a breeze!

But if you do not, one of the toughest vendors to choose is your venue. This is the one vendor that will be your starting point. Knowing what your venue offers, what availabiliy they have, if the pricing is aligned with your budget, what nuances you would need to plan around, if it aligns with your visions, what restricions they have... it really is the one the vendor that you'll watn to do the most research and the most comparison on.

Begin with your vision. Narrow down the amount of venues with what you actually falls within the realm of what you want your wedding to be like. Simplicity? Rustic? Urban?

Figure out your estimated guestlist. When you know how many people you want to have, this will help you figure out which venues will be able to accommodate your group size comfortably.

Stick to your budget. Don't blow your wedding budget out of the park with your venue cost alone. Have a budget in mind of your overall wedding and see if your venue will make or break that budget!

Consider the mobility of venue for both you and your guests. If you're choose a large resort, you'll have to consider building in time or transportation for your elderly or guests who may have mobility issues - and don't forget those in heels! Getting you from one place to another may also be challenging. Bigger may not always be better in this case! (Unless you plan for it!)

What does your venue provide? Some venues are bare bones! You'll have to rent everything from chairs, tables, linen, lights, and sometimes heating elements or fans.

Don't get discouraged when it comes to your venue! There's a venue for everyone's needs - sometimes you just have to get creative!

There can be a lot of stress when it comes to working out who to sit where and making sure that nobody feels like they are missing out, but being able to do it in a way that unites the two families can be tricky sometimes.

Seat them with their dates and a group of other mutual friends. They should be seated at the third-best tables in the room: the first is your sweetheart table, the second-best table(s) are for your parents, and the third nearest table(s) are for your wedding party.

It's okay to be confused about the expenses that the wedding party pays for versus what the wedding couple pays for. It is common that things are gifted in different weddings, so the "customs" may seem different each time. Here are some traditional things that wedding parties pay for:

1. Wedding attire - dresses, tuxes, alterations, shoes, and accessories are paid by the individual wedding party member.

2. It is expected for the wedding party to pay for their own travel for any celebration as well as any accommodation for their lodging,

3. A big question revolves around hair and makeup. If it is required by the couple to have thei wedding party to look a ctain way and require it to be professionally done, the wedding couple will cover the cost of the hair and make up expenses. However, since it is a costly expense, bridal parties are sometimes asked to cover their own hair and makeup cost, but if this is the case, most couples will not require a specific look.

4. The bridal shower is typically thrown by the wedding party (though we see parents throwing them at times) when you don't have an engagement party). Items like decorations, favors, games, activities, food, drinks, and a gift would be included in this expense.

5. Bachelor(ette) parties are the celebrations that the wedding party throws. Expenses from this category include traveling to the destinatio, food, drinks, overnight accomoudations, gift, decorations, games, actvities, swag.

Not sure if something is okay? It probably is! Here are some more common trends.

1. 30% of bridemaids and 32% of groomsmen are now buying their own wedding attire.

2. Guests are not expected to come to a wedding lugging gifts anymore. In fact, the fit tables are becoming smaller and smaller because it is more common to have an online gift registry and monetary gift only.

3. The average engagement duration is around 13.5 months. But take as long as you need! Be comfortable with what you want to do with YOUR lives.

Take these tips with you!

1. RATES - Get rates before you get too far with discussions! Know what your budget is and stick to it. When you find out something is completely out of your budget, it's more heartbreaking that you invested so much time explaining the details of your day to someone and need to do that all over with another one. Ask how flexible rates are, and if they won't fit in your budget, it's okay to keep looking! You now have more time to do so!

2. VENDORS DID THE WORK ALREADY - Most vendors should be able to give you a form that they will need filled out. These forms are great tools for you to be preparing for your wedding day details. There may not be a need for you to start a whole excel and powerpoint slide presentation when someone else has already done this 100+ times. Have a vision and share it with your vendors so they can assist with getting you in the right direction!

3. CONSULTATIONS - It is so important to speak to your vendors to understand more about their style of service and experience. Anyone can put words on a picture or word document. Don't be fooled by price lists with words that seem to explain their service to you. Ask for a call to see how well you connect and communicate with your vendor, how they will continue to maintain a working relationship with you after contracting til the wedding day and ask about their experience and thoughts for your big day! Make sure they are right for you!

Take these tips with you!

1. SECOND SHOOTER - Having a second shooter for your wedding is a great plus. Not only are you able to have the second shooter go to your partner's "getting ready site", this can get angles that your first shooter might not be able to get while they're in a whole different position. The biggest tip to great pictures, isn't to overwork one person and have them run to get detail shots of the ballroom and run back to get family pictures and run back to fidn your guests, but to know what's realistic.

2. SIGNATURE DRINKS - While this is a great touch to your wedding day, don't overthink this one! It's been proven time after time that guests will try out the signature drink once or twice but will switch back to their usual after that. Especially if your venue/caterer is making your pay for the option, opt to name a drink that won't require special ingredients to be purchased, it just needs a different name and viola! You have a signature cocktail!

3. DESSERT TABLES - Yes, the trend is going toward mini dessert bites. But we're all about having your traditional cake cutting cake. This piece is a great moment to capture, and we're a sucker for cake toppers that represent you and your partner. It can be two dogs that look like you both. It could be flowers that mean a lot to you, or it could be hilarious figurines that represent the humor between you. Get a smaller cake and get the dessert table you wanted! Or pack the smaller desserts as favors and give them away at the end!

Some couples love having kids at their wedding while others don't. If you're having an adults-only wedding, telling guests that kids aren't invited to your wedding can be difficult and uncomfortable.

Be clear about your decision from the start. This will help avoid confusion for the guests.
Putting the information in multiple places is also a great way to make sure no one misses the memo.

Here are a few great ways to tell your guests if you're not sure what to say:
1. "Please note this will be an adults-only celebration."
2. "Unfortunately, we can not accommodate children - thank you for your understanding."
3. "Due to limited venue space, adults only please."
4. "We wish we could include all children but are unfortunately only able to invite immediate family."
5. "To allow all wedding guests, including parents, a night of relaxation and fun, we respectfully ask that no children attend."

Add small gestures that will have your guests remembering the details that you put in!

With some planning and simple steps, you can make guests feel almost as special as you do on your big day.

The hospitality of the hosting family or couple goes a long way. Having treats like a welcome bag for guests to snack on, hangover kits, or even just a simple bottle of water at each ceremony seat will make people appreciate the details you added for them.

Pro Tip: Always consider the weather! Adding a few items that will help the guests stay comfortable will have them at awe!

Not sure which food service style will be better for your wedding?

The first thing to consider is your vision. Is this to be an elegant affair or a more casual celebration?

Choosing a plated meal will require a bit more effort on your part to organize but it will come off as more elegant as there will be more details coupled with this idea.

Choosing a buffet meal will create a more relax feel and encourage guests to mingle among themselves in line and maybe viit tables they pass by on the way to the buffet. There are obviously more options for guests with a buffet and guests are in better control of choosing what they want to have.

Decide whether you want guests to feel pampered or if you want to have a food showcase. With either decision, you'll be creating an experience for your guest and they'll love the thought you put into it!

If you're struggling on deciding whether or not to invite a friend, coworker, or somsone's significant other, ask yourself these questions:

- Have you talked to this person within the last year?

- Do you have a close persnal/family connection with this person?

- Is it someone your parents would need there?

- Do they know your partner's name?

- Are your parents paying for the wedding?

How much money is too much for a wedding? And what is going into your budget? Do you include the gifts to your bridal party? Your hair and make up gifts to the parents and wedding party?

Our rule of thumb is to always consider everything!

The worst case scenario is that you hit your budgeted amount faster, but it will force you to get creative faster and it may even save you money this way. Keeping yourself disciplined with a budget will keep you from having buyers remorse later.

Asking for cash gifts is the new trend, so don't fret! There are simple ways you can go about doing it.

1. Start a Honeyfund Account. Let's face it, even you wouldn't want to give people money if you didn't know where that money was going towards. Starting a HoneyFund account will help give your friends and family an idea of where you'll be using their money. Whether it's towards a honeymoon, a new home, starting a family, let your guests know a snippet of where that money is going and your loved ones will be more willing to give cash gifts!

2. Word of Mouth. Do not underestimate the power of word of mouth. People will begin to ask each other what they're going to buy for you as a wedding gift. Have your close friends and family know that you are looking to start a fund for your new home and it's the best gift that anyone could give them right now. Soon, your whole guestlist will know that this is what you're hoping to receive so their guess work can be skipped!

3. State it on your Website. Your website is a powerful tool to communicate with your guests. Use the page for gifts to thank your guests for their thoughtfulness and write a note about how you welcome a cash gift for your new home together as a couple.

4. Write a Poem with your Invite. This sounds cheesy but it's great! With your RSVPs and Save the Dates, add another card that says something along the lines of
""On this day, our special day
We do not know how to say
We have a house and contents too
So presents really wouldn’t do
But if a gift you’d like to bring
Then money would be just the thing.""

As for feeling bashful for asking for cash gift, don't worry! The trend is cash gifts now! You will rarely see guests lug a big gift to the wedding and expect YOU to lug it back out. Make it clear you welcome the money gifts and remember to thank everyone for their generousity!

Our “Booze Cruiser” bar made its’ way to Sylvanside Farm this past weekend for the TRY before you TIE event. There were so many great vendors and it was great meeting all the couples. We served a tasty batched lemon line wine cocktail out of our taps using Forever Farm & Vineyard red wine!

A big thanks to Events To Woo who helped put this all together!

Big or small...we can serve at them all!
