My name is Colleen Kanan. I am a woman who wears many hats, as the saying goes. I have always loved crafting, designing, and making art.

Serving the Twin Cities & Brainerd Lakes Areas, Minnesota I am a wife, a mother, a photographer, a videographer, a crafter, a homesteader… There are many things I do and I love them all! My parents introduced me to the artist life, as I grew up helping them create natural handcrafted bath and body products for their small business (All Things Herbal). With all the creativity of that lifestyle, I knew the artist life was for me! Most of all, I love to create/capture beautiful and meaningful things. Photography and videography have grown into my favorite ways of capturing the art of life. I love getting the shot that radiates emotion, the shot that keeps you looking back at it. I love editing raw footage into gorgeous memorials of special moments. It is an art of taking what is already there, something that is real and that happened, and capturing it to remember for always. Real, simple things are my favorite things. Laura Ingalls Wilder once said, “It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.” Ever since I saw her quote, I have kept it close to my heart. My goal in life is to enjoy all of the sweet, simple things, and I hope to help other enjoy them too! Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about me or my work. ✨Newborn sweetness in the studio✨

I had the sweetest session with this beautiful family, and my heart is still so full. This new mama became a friend back when we got our puppy Rosie from her — they had just started dating then, and now I had the honor of photographing their first baby 🥹

And just look at this little guy’s HAIR… he is absolutely his daddy’s twin 😍

We shot this session in the most beautiful rented studio space just five minutes from my house, and I’m officially obsessed with how warm and cozy it feels for newborns.

Now that I'm settled back in Pequot Lakes, I’m opening my books for newborn sessions and would love to welcome more families into my world of soft, simple, timeless portraits.
