"My mind to your mind, my thoughts to your thoughts."
If Spock were here, I'd ask for the most logical way to "share my thoughts." But since I'm not a Vulcan, I'll have to try and reduce many thoughts to a few and attempt not to overwhelm the senses. We live in a world of stark contrasts, with division and hatred promoted from the highest offices in our government. It's so easy to fall into an "us versus them" mentality.
So many of us Star Trek fans are drawn to the IDIC Vulcan ideology. We really embrace Gene Roddenberry's vision for Star Trek: a peaceful planet, a United Federation, and a more advanced, inclusive future.
In the darkness of this present time, the light of hope shines, and hope enlightens the mind. Every morning I wake up and ask myself, "What can I do?" All too often, I go to bed asking, "What did I do?" I feel both rage and resignation, and I know neither of those thoughts are helpful. I'm not a person to do nothing.
So, in a small, hopeful attempt to counter the darkness, I've tried to shine the light of a better future, even if only in one little corner of the "room."
Subspace Convention is our small spot in a larger landscape. We want to provide a retreat where we can discuss and reflect on a more hopeful future. Subspace is a place to share the joy of a common bond. Perhaps here we can explore new ways to improve today's world and set the stage for tomorrow's. This might seem like an insignificant effort, but no effort at all is illogical.
Subspace is a small, close-knit, inclusive environment that's both a retreat and a conference of ideas and creativity. Support this unique effort: join us, be a significant part of a small convention. Make a difference.
