If you'd like to donate your body to science, several organizations in North Carolina accept body donations for medical researchers to learn more about the complex anatomy of the human body.

While donating your body to science is a selfless act, it is not always guaranteed that your body will be accepted. It is essential to have a backup plan in case your body is not accepted for donation. This can include making arrangements for burial or cremation.

Also, know that you can plan a memorial service for your loved ones to attend regardless of whether you donate your body to science or choose cremation or burial.

Find out more about the entire process of whole body donation and how to make your plans.

The term “funeral repast” specifically refers to a meal shared among attendees after a funeral or memorial service. More commonly, people refer to a funeral repast as a “funeral reception.”

Originating from religious and cultural traditions, a repast serves as a communal space for family and friends to gather, eat, and find comfort in each other’s company.

"In a Dear Ozzy column for The Times in 2011, one person asked if it was “too morbid to plan your own funeral? Or is it a thoughtful gift for your surviving relatives?” Osbourne's reply indicated that he would very much like it to be a joyful moment."
“I honestly don’t care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen if it makes ’em happy,” Osbourne replied, before noting, “but I do want to make sure it’s a celebration, not a mope-fest.”

Serving Families Since 1920

Guiding you through a time of uncertainty. It is what our family has been doing since 1920. Today, we specialize in cremations with our own exclusively modern cremation center. This allows families to participate in the experience by simply saying goodbye one last time OR assist with the start of the cremation process. We are experts in natural (green) burials having performed many dozens of local green funerals and burials all of which were approved by the Green Burial Council.

We are a privately owned funeral home in North Raleigh owned by 3rd and 4th generation family funeral directors. Born from the knowledge of our paternal great grandfather and grandfather, Renaissance came to exist in 2003 with roots dating back to 1920 in Brooklyn, NY with the creation of Smolenski Funeral Home. In the 1940’s, another family funeral home was opened in Hempstead, NY; and then during the 1950’s, another funeral home in New Hyde Park, NY.
