The Matriarch of our Reese family, Naomi Brandon is featured in Montclair’s History! One of the two family catering businesses she references working at is Wood’s Catering, founded by our grandparents Edwin and Lola. Our legacy is rich 🙏🏽❤️

Today's Montclair Oral History Spotlight highlights Naomi Brandon.

Naomi Booker Brandon was born in Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey in 1927 and attended Montclair public schools. She recalls what it was like growing up in Montclair South End. Naomi worked a variety of jobs through the years, including for two catering businesses owned by her extended family, Remco Toy Factory, and MGM record manufacturing plant in Bloomfield.

Along with her work experience, she mentions her participation with the YMCA and the YWCA, and her active and long-time involvement in her church, the Union Baptist Church in Bloomfield. She was also a founding member of Montclair’s African American Heritage Foundation and continues to be actively involved in the annual festival and parade.

Nearly 10 years ago our beloved MIMI gained her wings after a vigorous battle against this disease. Our mother was committed to so many causes, and centered her life focused on education. We honor her memory and legacy through the support of other breast cancer warriors! 🙏🏽💞
