Introducing Augusta to new artists has always been one of the things we look to do every season. So it seems fitting that our upcoming season opens with an exhibition in the MICRO gallery by Kevin Kirkwood, who in addition to his art practice hosts a podcast that interviews emerging artists. His artistic work seeks to create meaningful experiences that challenge and inspire, often combining community and environments in thought provoking ways. If you want to see what he has coming to the MICRO gallery in September get a sneak peek at our members Launch Party on Thursday, September 4! Free for all members and a great chance to see something new!

STRIKE THAT MATCH by Kevin Kirkwood
Sept 5-27
STRIKE THAT MATCH is an immersive installation that reconstructs the emotional and physical architecture of a once-shared domestic space; a home that, over time, became something more transient, volatile, and ultimately symbolic. In late May, Kirkwood began a personal excavation, translating memory into material. Through this exhibition, he invites viewers into a space shaped by layered intimacy, rupture, and renewal. This installation brings together symbolic objects that reflect both the comfort and chaos of shared living. Handmade elements in the form of painted canvas, stained glass, quilted fabric; evoke familial warmth and intimacy. In contrast, moments of rupture emerge through charred fragments of wood and torn paper, signaling emotional intensity, sexuality, and transformation. This interplay between the tender and the volatile reveals the unstable boundaries of domestic life, where acts of care coexist with moments of upheaval. STRIKE THAT MATCH is not merely a recreation of a place, it is a reckoning. A hybrid of home and terminal, the installation captures the threshold where relationships ignite, unravel, and burn away.
