This is the producer of Wildoria again.
--We have received some comments on here, claiming that our artwork and posts are “AI.”
--But, in fact, they are not AI. Logos were hand-drawn with digital pencils and finished in photoshop. Social media posts are photos from past festivals and compiled in Canva. These are conventional digital tools used for decades now.
--The comments are not surprising given that many studies now have shown or suggested that people cannot tell the difference between human and AI generated images, especially if the images are rendered with digital softwares.
Furthermore, AI detectors are not reliable.. I know all these mediuam pretty well and I do not think there is any reason to conclude that any of this is AI.
--So we hire our artists to make art; and we get accused of using AI.
Does this accomplish anything good?
--Who are these people making the comments?
*We estimate about sixty percent or more are “trolls.” I define that as people with competing interests (people associated with other festivals and companies), conspiracy theorists, agitators, discontents and etc…Some of these people are from Russia. They probably do not have any particular ethical, aesthetic or cultural concerns about AI—or any interests in this festival.
*Some seem to have have some legitimate concerns and questions—and as mentioned, we can honor that: how is AI influencing art? And the business of art? And human expression and health in general. Are we all just too digital now? Those are good questions?
--Here is the other paradox: Even though we get attacked for using AI, even when we are not, we are the ones, most obviously, bringing the remedy—that is, we are all here working long days under tight timelines to make this festival happen away from the digital world:
--Camping under the moon with thousands of other people.
--Bringing not one band, but forty bands to perform in person over three days.
--Hundreds of other artists to build stages, art installations, paint paintings and etc…
--And inspire people to get their heads out of Netflix, media and their phones to experience a real and potent creative reality through both their body, mind and spirit?
--For those who are genuinely interested in the AI issue, here is our policy on that:
*Our posts have never come from, and will likely not come from, verbal commands written into chatbots or image generators.
*Same for images and video.
*We will never pretend that AI generated art or music or whatever is done by people.
*With that being said, our staff is free to use AI when it works for them. We have enormous amount of work to do; and like the rest of the workforce, we will use benefecial tools; and if we do not, we probably will fall behind. We also work with hundreds of people and we cannot dictate, or even determine, what tools they use.
--With that being said, we are not interested in continuing this interaction about AI—so we are closing this case and moving on to our work—to produce an awesome and integrated festival for humans.
We hope you do the same.
