Of all the tools in my spiritual toolbox, meditation is by far the most powerful. The ability to sit in stillness, quiet the noise, clear the mind, and open myself to whatever God has in storeโthatโs where real connection begins.
So many people speak, but few truly listen. They donโt listen to others, and they donโt listen to themselves. For me, meditation has become a sacred space to hear that still, inner voiceโthe one that aligns me with something much bigger than myself. It's where I return when I need clarity, healing, or direction.
When I first started practicing yoga over 20 years ago, I started small, counting my exhales in rounds of twelve. Then I began breathing in unconditional love for myself, and exhaling love for the entire universe, without expecting anything in return. From there, I moved into a beautiful rhythm: inhaling peace, love, and joy from the crown of my head down the spine to my tailbone, and exhaling that same energy back up and out. These simple techniques have helped me reach deeper levels of consciousness and healing than I ever thought possible.
I donโt wish pain or suffering on anyone. I want people to know peace. To feel whole. To reconnect with themselves in the most loving way.
Meditation has become more important to me than even the physical poses of yoga. The asana practice was always meant to prepare the body for stillnessโto help us sit comfortably with ourselves. Thatโs where the real work begins.
If youโve never tried meditation, I hope this encourages you to give it a try. One minute. Then maybe five. Or perhaps you stay with one. There is no right wayโonly your way. This practice is yours. No one else can tell you what you need. Only your own inner divine voice knows that truth.
One of my favorite sayings is, โWhen you pray, you are talking to God. When you meditate, you are listening.โ
If you already meditate, Iโd love to know what works for you. And if youโre curious but havenโt started, I hope this gives you the gentle nudge youโve been waiting for.
